Ok, I ran some of the quotes thru Google and it turns out that they are phrases from literary works, speechs etc.... Yeah, no s. Sherlock, I know. But what I think is happening is that the senders of the email are using some sort of program to pull a sentence from an on line book reference site or something of that sort. I don't think they'd have some monkey pounding away at a keyboard to come up with that stuff.

The Christianity which is shared is the Christianity which is convincing.

Here is the simple but powerful rule... always give people more than they expect to get.

He talked on for ever and you wished him to talk on for ever.

Numerous:
From the post above this one...

"He talked on for ever and you wished him to talk on for ever." From an essay about Samuel Taylor Coleridge by William Haxlitt

"Here is the simple but powerful rule... always give people more than they expect to get. " Nelson Boswell, economist

"The pride of dying rich raises the loudest laugh in hell..." John W. Foster

"How wonderful is death! Death and his brother sleep" Shelley

I even saw one from C. Bronte but I can't find it now. It's almost as if they are cutting and pasting from famous quote web sites or doing some light reading with Bartlett's quotes...

Those are called "fortunes" and some older versions of the UNIX operating system have these as an add-on, but the one's I've seen were usually on the command line console, but I would bet that who ever is sending these uses an pretty old UNIX mail or web server to do it that still has this old feature.

Some early UNIX programming student somewhere likely got a pretty good grade on the first implimentation of this back during the days of the early mainframe networks. I imagine having your console give you a bit of wisdom every once and a while was a nice break in the action during those long coding sessions.
