Russia behaving increasingly aggressive towards just about everyone in recent years

A sure sigh when you know someones wounded and trapped, so that's good to know

Putin is scared and doesn't really want to admit it. His country is falling apart...again. (In what, thirty years?)

If this cat stays in power much longer, he will do something that bodes ill will for us all. He's more narcissistic than Obama, but willing to act on it, that's the scary part.

TD youre not acting ballsy enough when earlier you mentioned a radio message to the pilot. ID a gave him a ultimatum. either you leave this airspace or we will light you and your compatriot up the next time you decide to make a pass. What are you rintentions?(of course in russian so he cant say he didnt understand) Say do those CIWS have training rounds liek Paint rounds? Imagine if they did and you lit them up with paint rounds. would they had crapped their pants i wonder?

Still doesn't make it ok.

Buzz was a bad word to use.

Actually, the jet probably was testing to see what our radar capabilities are.

You don't approach a naval ship like that without having a reason.

And good to see the US navy have acted highly professional, for a fencer to test a Arleigh Burke class destroyer like this is just suicide

And the Aegis

The Multi-Mission Signal Processor (MMSP) provides Anti-Air Warfare (AAW)/Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) multi-mission capability for the first 28 ships (DDG 51-78) of the US Navy's Arleigh Burke class destroyer as part of the Aegis Modernization Program

The Aegis system was involved in a disaster in which USS Vincennes shot down Iran Air Flight 655 in 1988 resulting in 290 civilian deaths.

It was determined by a formal military investigation that the Aegis system was completely operational.

Crucially, the Vincennes misidentified the Iranian Airbus as an attacking F-14 Tomcat fighter aircraft. The Iran Air Flight 655 was climbing at the time and its radio transmitter was "squawking" on the Mode III civilian and military code rather than on the purely military Mode II, as recorded by the USS Vincennes own shipboard Aegis Combat System.

Still takes human to use the equipment.

Russia's political system is mafia style. Ours is pretty corrupt also, but there is no comparison, its like comparing a street gang in chicago to a mexican drug cartel.

Everyone needs to keep in mind, what exactly did Eric Snowden have? We just dont really know and the ones that do know wont tell us. Think about it. Why is Russia being so provacative, almost like Putin knows how we will respond?
I dont know but food for thought I guess eh.

Thank you for pointing out about our need to know what is going on. Some people look at every article and thread and try to somehow always make it the fault of the United States. I'm getting sick of it and replying to these people, so thank you for saying something. Star for you!

If the aegis is running in auto defense mode No you do not need a human to operate it. it is equipped with a IFF identifier
And that incident in Iran was with the older version and the aircraft was outside the CIWS engagement zone. The newer SEAram has increased the defense ring out to 11 miles for close engagement. Those missiles you mention were not defensive those were offensive.

All I am saying is people to wrong things because of fear and mistakes.

Missiles I mentioned? the article?

"The Multi-Mission Signal Processor (MMSP) provides Anti-Air Warfare (AAW)/Ballistic Missile Defense"

The USS Vincennes used two missiles in downing it. Aren't the missiles used to down inbound threats.

Does the US own that part of the sea? Or air space? sounds like FUX news is trying to make a Mountain out of a mole hill..

wish we had Access to record on how many times US drones violated "air space"

Just saying....
Pretty sure if american jets did this to any other nation all the people making statements like this one would be calling for someones head....

Also pretty sure most other nations would have fired on american jets, if they did this.

Ship radars are a completely different ballgame. The Aegis radar gets an update/upgrade every few years, Abbe the BMD radar is different from the standard Aegis radar.

If you can get a good enough snapshot, you can identify a ship from the EW signature.

Finally, a little adult supervision just showed up.

So a Russian plane gives a US warship a little high speed low-alt target training and you guys have World War III starting.

At least the media isn't claiming it was carrying nuclear weapons, like the Guam overflight.

I don't think WW3 is going to break out from this incident, although I'm sure that many didn't think war would break out as it it did in WW 1 and WW 2 - from happenings in Europe either.

Lol u really need to not be so smug as you are obviously not a good reader. I was referring to the E.U. not being able to get gas. The U.S. is the one that is 18 TRILLION dollars in debt whose currency is about to be dropped as the reserve worldwide shortly. Im well aware of the way the world works. The united states pays people to stir up controversy somewhere the place goes into turmoil...then we bring em democracy. Its been happening since Korea and Vietnam. Difference is Europe aint the superpowers they were in WW2. Without United States backing Russia could probably crush the whole E.U. We havent even begun to throw the wild card nations into the equation. United states is the only country worthy of mention fighting on our side. Quit actin like you got it all figured out pal. If you did you would be dead or have a job somewhere using that big brain of yours.

No but it does show how tense things are.

Not a ww3 starter, but a good indicator of how the US is being tested and poked to see what it's reactions are.

It flew near...didnt "provoke". What? You think everyone scrambled on the ship to aim their guns? No. Flying close is a far cry...FAR CRY...from provoking the US to start shooting.

You flamed this issue with the word. Provoked them? Apparently not..we did nothing about it...and werent going to anyway.

AND...even if it did provoke us a bit...we'd do nothing about it.

This thread bent the truth sideways>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The American people deserve to know, and have any information made available to them, when another military attempts to provoke our forces. Fox News is not the bad guy for reporting the news to the American people. There is a thread on ATS on that already.

This thread is about what this could mean as a development in the Ukraine, Russia and U.S. and NATO situation crisis.

I am not disputing "the right to know" just trying to think realistically here . If the Russians wanted to "provoke" i am sure they wouldn't hesitate ..

Shooting at the US ship would be a "provoking action" and that didn't happen..

It sounds like the Russian pilot was just being a bit of maverick....

Actually such flybys are provocative and are against the rules that govern behavior of ships and aircraft at sea. The Soviets used to do this a lot in the Cold War. Looks like Vlad is trying to role history back to that time.
