Does the US own that part of the sea? Or air space? sounds like FUX news is trying to make a Mountain out of a mole hill..

wish we had Access to record on how many times US drones violated "air space"

Just saying....

No, they don't own that part of the sea, but all naval ships are surrounded by a no fly zone. You DO NOT fly anywhere near them, it's damn near an act of war.

Yeah ... No... Hardly an act of war , it sounds like people are wanting a war . I am not defending the Russians actions ,if they would have fired on the ship that's an Act of war. It just seems the pilot was being a bit of a maverick to me .

Umm

Maybe

Ordered to fly close to the ship to provoke a nation incident. The US gets jumpy, shoots it down, Russia looses it because the US just shot down an unarmed plane that was of non hostile intent.

Huge issue across the world, Makes the US look horrible.

However the boys aren't stupid, and hold fire. HA!

I kind of see this as Putin, yet again, pushing to see just how far he can push. He has enough military might that if the US destroyer had reacted he could handle a war, but must just want to see how far he can push until he actually DOES start a war. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. I would love to know where the order came from to do this on the Russian side.

Could Putin be testing President Obama? It wouldn't be the first time a U.S. President was tested by a foreign power.

Typical Fox News sensationalism at work.
I will wait to comment until a more reputable source comes along.

Don't complain then, when the other news outlets report the event, they are guilty of following the lead of Fox News.

That is what I am thinking.

Clearly, since it had no missiles attached, this was a planned run on the US ship for some reason. I am VERY interested to know if the other jet that did not get close happened to have missiles attached.....that would make this a really interesting situation with a LOT more speculation me thinks.

Which means it is not. Some in the Russian military are just as goofy as the US military.

Russians shut down a Korean jet. US shoot down an Iranian jet. Bet neither will shoot each others down.

If that jet was armed and still ignored the warnings you can bet it would have been shot down. Quit trying to split hairs when the point is that it WAS aggressive, WAS provocative, and nearly could have resulted in live fire. No one is trying to argue it WAS an act of war kiddo.

How do we know it's Russian jets and an unarmed one?
Pics or it didn't happen...

Here is another with some more details.

Source

In the first public account of the incident, the officials said the Russian Fencer made 12 passes, and flew within 1,000 yards of the USS Donald Cook, a Navy destroyer, at about 500 feet above sea level.

1000 yds out at 500 feet above sea level....that's pretty damn close.

And here it is straight from the Pentagon...

Source

Two Russian aircraft were present, but only one took part in the provocative actions, Warren said. The aircraft flew from near sea level to a couple of thousand feet, he added, but never overflew the U.S. Arleigh Burke-class destroyer.
“The Russian plane made a total of 12 passes,” he said.
The wingman stayed at a considerably higher altitude, Warren said.
Officials later said the aircraft approached within about 1,000 yards of the ship. The USS Cook was never in danger, Warren said.
“The Donald Cook is more than capable of defending itself against two Su-24s,” the colonel said.
Warren said he does not think this is an example of a young pilot joyriding. “I would have difficulty believing that two Russian pilots, on their own, would chose to take such an action,” he said. “We’ve seen the Russians conduct themselves unprofessionally and in violation of international norms in Ukraine for several months, and these continued acts of provocation and unprofessionalism do nothing to de-escalate the situation in Ukraine, which we called on the Russians to do.”

Clearly the pentagon sees this as an act of provocation as well.

That being a bit of a maverick could cause a global crisis.

That is something you just do not do. Approaching another naval force with a jet fighter who does not respond to your calls to it to back off is nothing short of aggressive behavior.

If he was being a maverick, then Putin better reel him and anyone else like that in quick because we wouldn't allow something like that more than once to our ships.

Well, i don't know all the details surrounding the incident , who knows the Navy could have been doing something the Russians didn't like and used this flyby tactic to offer a warning?

Look all i am saying is keep an open mind ,cause we know the news outlets Love to put a twist on situations to drive propaganda..

That was the reason for the ship being sent into the Black Sea wasn't it?
To show support for the Ukrainians.

So we see how Moscow reacts to that, they buzz our ship to send a warning that they also are watching us.

Not a good sign really.

To much of a potential for an exchange of fire.
I bet we send more ships now.

Why don't people such as your self quit making everything in the world an act of war. Take a look at the USa in hte mideast for 13 years....

USA navy shoots down Iran passenger jet because because it sails into Iran war and takes out plane in Iran air space beccuase it can't figure out it is a commercial flight using the high dollar super navy cruiser. You are OK with that I'm sure.
