(Okay, I was wrong about Kerry donating zero percent and Bush twenty. Kerry over five years donated .5% and Bush donated 7.9%.)

Excerpt:

Kerry's returns from 1995 and earlier, before his marriage to Heinz, have sometimes attracted criticism over the issue of charitable giving.

In 1995, according to published reports, Kerry reported a taxable income of $126,179, and charitable contributions of $0.
In 1994, he reported income of $127,884, and charitable donations of $2,039.
In 1993, he reported income of $130,345, and contributions of $175.
In 1992, he reported income of $127,646, and contributions of $820.
In 1991, he reported income of $113,857, and contributions of $0.

As far as Bush is concerned, in 1991, the future president, then a private citizen, reportedly had income of $179,591, and charitable contributions of $28,236.

In 1992, Bush reported income of $212.313, and contributions of $31,914.
In 1993, Bush reported income of $610,772, and contributions of $31,292.
In 1994, Bush reported income of $474,937
In 1995, income of $419,481.
Published reports at that time did not list Bush's charitable contributions for those two years.
www.nationalreview.com...

Kerry, earned $625,911 in that five year period and donated $3,034 to charity. That's .5% of his income.

Bush, who earned $1,893,091 and donated $91,442 (more likely the amount was over $150,00 if the missing years were added). Even minus the two missing years that's 4.8% of his income. If you assume that Bush's donations were actually $150,000 (probably a low estimate) over the five years, he would have donated 7.9% of his income to charity.

This is the best post on why being liberal is the easiest choice anyone can make. There is absolutely hard decisions, no thinking required. In fact if it feels good, do it.

"Duh, I'm for the earth and against violence". Yes these are very hard choices you are making.

Carseller... yes, they are indeed hard choices. Building something is always hard - destroying is easy. Do you think that trying to limit your consumption of non-renewable resources, trying to change your way of life by implementing composting and recycling, and not owning a car because it discourages public transportation are easy choices? I don't know about you, but I want to have a planet left for my grandkids and great-grandkids to live in.

And I also want them to live in a world where difference is celebrated, not hidden like a disease.

I'm 100 percent with Amelia on this. (Well, except for the marijuana issue - it gives me sore throat).

I believe what carseller is getting at is that most of the population would agree with Amelia (besides the last one) on what she believes. It's when we get deeper into each of the issues that it actually takes some research, statistics, and reasonable debate to get to individualistic points.

yes but it isnt 51% of americans, it isnt democracy if less than half the people dont vote, and so what if they didnt excercise Their rights to vote, it still isnt half the country a democracy is suppossed to be about what the majority of the people want.

SourGrapes - I hear you. However, that's the same for any kind of philosophy or belief - some people will blindly follow what they see as virtue, without questioning or digging deeper. I know some people who are for the death penalty but can't explain why; I also know people who are against it but can't explain why.

I don't think that exercising intellectual laziness is a trait only liberals have.

That's exactly it...deeper into the issues. Everyone in an ideal world wants these things, as long as they aren't Saddam, Hitler, dictor types.

The difference lies in the fact some people can see that world peace (although a great idea) probably will never happen.

What a great world it would be if there were no poor, hungry, no wars, no hate, etc.

Some people thought communism was the answer. We all saw what happened to that! In the mean time (those of us with our feet still planted firmly on the Earth) our trying to keep our country safe from terrorist organizations that are hell bent on destroying our country even if we leave them alone.

Lovely... apparently conservatives are the realists and liberals are dreamers...

Billy Graham was asked in Time magazine whether he thought AIDS or famine was the biggest problem facing the world. His answer: "The greatest problem facing the world is sin."

Um... yeah. I guess realism is a question of perspective.

I agree 100%

Without sin niether would exist. I realize a world without sin will never happen either though.

In the case of famine, I wonder who's sinning then...

And I certainly don't buy into the "AIDS is God's punishment to gays" crap. Besides, those who condemn the most also do the least to help those who *do* have AIDS. Talk about Christian charity.

Oh, word is going around that Bob Jones III said that Elizabeth Edwards' cancer is her punishment for supporting the party of sin... I'm inclined to believe it's an urban legend. Because if it were true... it would, well... confirm me in my belief that he's no Christian. And no human being.

While Graham is a big time Christian and his quote on sin was probably Christian motivated, I looked at it from a different perspective...

Sin is the largest problem in the world...If dictators, like Saddam was, used their resources to help their citizens, rather than building a 5th multi-million dollar palace, the people would be better off. If people did not brutally mutilate and murder each other there would be no need for jails or the death penalty. If people did no harm to each other and if everyone lived a life free of gluttony and self-indulgence there would be very little suffering in the world.

Obviously this is not possible, but living "sin" free would be the ideal.

Im good with politics but I cant compete with some of you guys

All I can say about the election :In the begining of november I told myself, " I want Bush back. IF KErry is elected i will except him as my president because that is what the people wanted. Excuses and complaints will get me no where so im going to leave it alone at that."

Stop complaining arent you just tryign to do whats " In the best intrest of the people" the people voted the people elected Bush. It was in the majority of th epublic's best intrest to get Bush back let it die at that.

BTW thats the best quote ive ever heard told to a demo/liberal. the one in my sig

BrewCrew - I don't think anyone can disagree with that, liberal or conservative.

However... what does Billy Graham see as sin? There's the question. What I see as sin is hate, violence, cupidity, intolerance, exploitation, and of course turning a blind eye to suffering and illness. However, I have a feeling that for Graham, homosexuality, impiety and premarital sex, among others, are included in that. So there's the reason why I really, really can't subscribe to what he said until I know what he means by "sin".

Is that really what ATS needs? Will that finally stop all the complaint threads about there being too many anti-Bush/government/war/religion topics on a CONSPIRACY site?

Who exactly are you going to tame now? The author of this thread has been banned and is on global ignore. Not even sure what people are still responding to anyway.

Would you like to tame me perhaps?

Secrets out... hes my lil' cousin

Brewcrew that is...

Maybe this conspiracy site has morphed into something much larger?

I for one post in other forums besides this one too, I just find the topics more to my liking here.

It's pretty tough to talk political anything without someones viewpoints being placed on the table, and I've learned a lot from hearing other peoples viewpoints.

Some are very hard to understand... at least for me anyways.

This is the political Ideology forum right?

You're against violence but pro-abortion? You love humanity and support abortion?

Isn't that kinda hypocritical? Abortion is violence against unborn humans.

And I don't have to tolerate perverse behavior, sorry...yeah, it's your choice how you live, but there's NO LAW saying I have to accept it.

As far as Billy Graham goes--consider it this way:

Billy Graham is popular and got a star on Hollywood Boulevard.

The people killed God's prophets, and they killed Jesus.

Graham promotes sin, in fact. I highly recommend the book Billy Graham and His Friends by Dr. Cathy Burns. The man is a wolf in sheep's clothing.
