We need naked dancing women to chase away the dragon that is eating the Moon!

You can start to see the color change with the naked eye and definitely thru the scope.

Keep your eyes on the road please have we three more if you miss this one.

Just a heads up -- unless someone has a telescope, or a really good camera, I don't think they're going to see the color change yet in basic point & shoot photos. Mine aren't picking that up yet (but they're nice enough on their own, so that's ok) I'm hoping my camera catches it the closer to totality it gets.

It's cleared-off nicely here in Dallas. However, I'm at work so I'm having to sneak peeks out the window.

Just to point out...
That's Mars all red up there above the Moon.

The moon went dark.....that was cool, then the clouds in my area (S Portland USA) blocked out the view...all dark ooooooh

But there was no real red tinge... I guess there wasn't enough ash in our atmosphere to make that happen
Maybe on the next one
We have three more to go in this tetrad yes?

The Moon is a peach color according to the Slooh Observatory...

The color isn't from your local conditions, it has more to do with the way light refracts through the atmosphere around the entire hemisphere of the globe.

This was my 4th Lunar. It's been by far the darkest, with the least color.

Another observation.
It's odd to see stars near a full Moon. Without the eclipse they are lost in the glare.

Anyone else get the impression that the Moon looks more spherical, rather than a flat disk?

Heh, i noticed that too, it's such a strange site to see the moon not giving off light , really looks like a planet to me right now

Very cool site!

I took a few pictures through my telescope a little while ago. Just thought I'd share, thought it's not the best quality with a $50 scope and the phone wanting to autofocus all the time.

linky to my imgur

And I was outside wandering why the moon was turning brown. True story

The clouds finally rolled in a ways into totality. Oh well, at least it was clear for the first half of it!
My totality shots sucked (the limitations of having a point & shoot and a flimsy tripod) but a few did turn out pretty good. Here's one, the rest are posted over here.

Nice pics, people. Shame I'm on the wrong side of the planet — the sky has been crystal clear these last couple of days and the almost full moon has been looking beautiful, low in the sky out of my kitchen window in the evening.

I got up at 4:00 and it was still total cloud cover. I could not find the moon but the clouds were all burnt orange in color. Needless yo say I went right back to bed. Hoping for a better show in October.

Insane Plot Twist: (paraphrasing) "That's really not the Moon during a Lunar Eclipse. That's actually the Earth! But... but, I thought we were in the Nevada desert!" Gold Star for anyone that gets the reference.

Anyway, I couldn't see it because it was cloudy where I was.
Glad some people were able to see it).
