Yellowstone Possible Evacuation?

I received this Google Alert about Yellowstone today. I can't confirm anything about this but it's a guy on You Tube who said that he has a law enforcement officer friend who contacted him this morning about a fax that his agency received from some government officials about a possible evacuation of parts of Montana (Bozeman) and Wyoming (Cody) and that they should be alert. He said this call came this morning just as he was finding out some other stuff about Yellowstone officials reporting sinkholes near the geysers in the park. He said on the video that he hasn't been able to confirm this yet, but that the fax went out to multiple law enforcement agencies.

Yellowstone possible evacuation?

Like I said, i can't confirm this but posting anyways so that ATS can dissect this information.

Although the information of a possible Alert and Evacuation of areas of Wyoming and Montana has not reached the public eye. Reports are in about a fax sent out by officials to Law Enforcement agencies about a possible upcoming mandatory evacuation. This could only be due to the recent destabilization of the Yellowstone Caldera.

It's already the 11th here in the UK, I notice your post is the 10th...which is fine, but your link says the 9th....so in US time, this is 24 hours old? It's very late here (2am GMT). Surely something like this would have gone a bit more 'viral'?

Oh well, guess I'll find out when I get up in the morning once American ATS'ers have had a rumage around.

I don't know, I can't find anything at all on this! And this guy seems cheesy to me. Hopefully it is nothing.

ETA - Just contacted a friend in Bozeman and they have heard nothing at all about an evacuation. They even laughed about the video going around about the running ("evacuating") bison. They can't understand why everyone all of the sudden started talking about Yellowstone. Nothing seems out of the ordinary to them.

Thanks for putting up the video. The one thing it says in that link is that this hasn't reached the public eye, but you would think something like this wouldn't stay secret too long because these law enforcement officials who would get a heads up have families they would surely contact. Hopefully it's nothing.

Yes, that video of the bison was taken a week before the EQ up there. Believe me, if/when something does happen with Yellowstone, we will definitely know about it. Everyone!

Bozeman is a big town for all technical purposes but, word would spread fast there. I have no doubt that if evacuation orders were called for, everyone would know in a matter of hours. People seem to stick close to each other out there.

Who is this guy anyway? I have watched a couple of his other videos and he seems to sincerely believe what he is saying, but he is a little far fetched for my tastes. Why would someone give him a lead on a story before anyone else?

The bison running video is yet another example of how bad the power of the Internet is when uninformed people get listened to.

I have been to Yellowstone 4 times over the past 10 years and have seen major herds of Bison running every time. Will be going there end of summer again and staying in the Park then Bozeman at a very special Bed and Breakfast + Wolf Preserve.

Anyway rush hour in the Park is not always cars but usually 30-40 bison crossing the road.
Of course some doom porn lover on the web that has never been there sees them running and thinks it's 2012 and Woody Harrelson is about to be blown up.

Here is what the USGS has to say about all of this. I think it's a huge hoax.

I keep my ear pretty close to the ground, but I haven't heard any rumbles yet. Be on ATS the second after I do, though.

Edit: And I have to say I haven't run into any official that is concerned about this current scare.

I appreciate the word POSSIBLE in the headline and S&F for a balanced view.

Yellowstone is active with some unusual happenings ..... But:

Honestly, we only have a few hundred years of detailed history and only a few decades of real scientific study with modern equipment.

Yellowstone has been there since man lived in caves.

We simply do not have sufficient information to call anything. We will get more info after it blows its top, but seriously, just info on that one event.

There are two possibilities

One is a steam event. This one is considered by many to be 'overdue'. It would be very dramatic affecting the three states that surround it.

The other is a major eruption, who knows when, tomorrow or five thousand years from now. This would put pressure on our survival as a species.

Lastly, the Government is not going to cry wolf and frankly, as a Government, would rather everyone die as opposed to having several million homeless evacuees to deal with. One big funeral event and they can get back to their normal shenanigans.

Any uptick in methane releases, I know you keep an eye on this!

The report (real or not) states that officials are giving heads up LEO's about a possible evacuation order, not that it has been given yet, and that means they are keeping it quiet for now, or trying to anyways.

Not how it works around here. The minute something like a warning fax goes out copies would be sent a multitude of places. Many of our LEOs are part-time volunteers. They would be on the phone to their buddies right away.

No, they're not connected in the typical, but not sure about whether activity at one location can trigger activity at another. I've read many posts here at ATS where folks think they do affect each other, Yellowstone...San Andreas...and the New Madrid.

I just talked to a good friend that works for the city of Cody and he has heard nothing at all. He says it's just another boring snowy day.

I have had a few vivid dreams and some have come true in the past, but in relation to Yellow Stone and one of my dreams, let me just say - Hollow Earth, that would sum up what i have seen in my dreams and possibly what is happening.

I haven't heard that there is, but I believe there is methane release from many areas rather than just hydrates or the polar regions. I think there are plumes of methane gas releasing from any where you hear about sinkholes or loud boom reports as well as earthquakes. So, IMO, methane is definitely releasing at Yellowstone simply because of the quake activity, and now a possible report of sinkholes near the geysers. I just haven't heard of any studies on methane levels at the park. Unfortunately, methane doesn't get the attention it deserves.

I'm going to debunk my own thread. This fax apparently was sent out like three days ago. IMO any fax with this type of warning that went out in three days time would have probably been leaked by now, and gone viral. But it hasn't, so I don't know. Not saying that it can't be possible, just saying that it looks more and more like a doom porn stars w#* dream.

I'd still like to know about the sinkholes. I wonder if any one can find out if there are any sinkholes developing within Yellowstone.
