The US Navy has announced that it is moving ahead with plans to deploy the first ever combat laser weapon. Late this summer, USS Ponce — a fairly unextraordinary amphibious ship (pictured below) — will be outfitted with the Laser Weapon System (LaWS). LaWS will be put through some at-sea testing in the Persian (Arabian) Gulf, after which it will be capable of shooting down drones or disabling small attack boats (including suicide bombing missions) at an energy cost of just $1 per shot. Rather fittingly for a futuristic weapons system, LaWS will be fired using a “video game-like controller.”

Ive known about LaWS for a while now, and I'm having a hard time believing that its just now being deployed.
As far as what it would do to a human, the same thing any high energy weapon would do to a human... Melt right through them... lol
theyknowwhoyouare If this is old enough to declassify I wonder what amazing weapons they have that we will never know about

yay what a great future we will have
Lasers are all fun and games until they start blasting whoever they feel like from space. Drones will be out of commission before long now seeing as this is the obviously cheaper method of frying people from a million miles away.

Ending a nuclear ballistic missile threat is a good thing IMO
