Mystery grows over search for supposed Russian military officer who called 911 in distress

DETROIT (WXYZ) - There are more questions as Detroit Police keep tracking the call that sparked a massive search along the riverfront.

Cops are now asking russian officials at the consulate to help with the case.

"While the search for a supposed Russian military officer has ended, the investigation is still far from over and it's still unknown who made that call to police."

From morning to night on Tuesday, cops, state troopers and feds combed Detroit's riverfront only to turn up empty handed.

An alleged Russian military officer claiming he was kidnapped and stabbed in Detroit seems more like a ghost now.

"If it was a prank it wasn't funny," say

Happend Today, strange to say the least

What do you all think. Hoax? Or Russian officer who escaped, and was recaptured?

I find the whole situation extremely strange.

That's a lot of effort to find one person.

Note to self : if you ever need the police in Detroit just say you are a Russian military officer.

Without the 911 call, (minus a name) there's nothing else. AKA, "No informations".

Wasn't China buying up a lot of the property there somehow? Maybe Russia is doing something similar and a quarrel broke out!!

Id say hoax but I do find it odd they seem to have really really searched for this guy. A lot of effort.

Ya that has been the general consensuses that it was a hoax. However, they would not have utilized the resources that they did, if they didn't think it was real. What ever was said must have been very convincing. Apparently the land marks he was pointing out while running were right ect.

Wow. Bizarre story. Wonder how this one turns out. Here's another article:

police-search-detroit-for-man-appa rently-kidnapped-trapped-in-building

They say he was on the phone intermittently with 911 for hours. No one thought to have a translator on stand by for when he was in contact again?

Well the question in my mind is:
If it is a Russian cell phone, could they have called from Russia?
Can someone dial a 911 # from there? *ponder*
I don't think they can, but if they could,
Good luck busting that person.

You can call 911 locally from another country, however you have to be patched into their network by an operator. It is known the call is from outta country... this was from someone with a Russian phone, being routed by the local cell network.

Or if you know of a business with an unsecure PBX system, you could patch through it to the local 911. That kind of thing is pretty old school in terms of hacking. There also might be some other systems which aren't secure that could be patched through to cellular. Some security monitoring device might be open to the internet, and that device might have the ability to also make a cellular call in case of something like a power outage. If a hacker knows how to get into the back end and make it work for them... Well, it seems mischief is quite possible.

Anyhow, that's an unusual story regardless. I wonder if there will be anything more to it?

If a Russian military member did call for help in Detroit, it would seem as if he was desperate to give himself away for his own life's sake. I may be going on a long branch here, but what if Russian operators are giving Detroit 'a bad time' . And one pleaded for help when their life was at stake. This is worth some investigation I would think.

It may have been a false emergency call to draw off the cops while some other skullduggery happened.....any big scores come up in the next day or so....that's it...or not............

This part should give every one pause:

Former FBI boss Andy Arena says it's possible someone was closely monitoring law enforcement as part of an elaborate hoax.

"It could have been someone probing law enforcement response, to see what resources they would bring to bear and how they would bring them to bear," says arena.

Authorities also said it was a Russian phone number but the name hasn't checked out.

Spy?

Also, if he was held captive and stabbed..why would he still have his phone? That's kind of kidnapping 101 I would think..take their phone so they can't call for help.

It's Detroit, they probably assumed the phone network wouldn't be working.

Them pesky Ruskies!

They've infiltrated Detroit to try and find pro-Russian supporters and declare independence.

I'm thinking hoax.
