I can't stand reading that ATS is a "conspiracy site". It's becoming like the race card. Whenever you can't back up a claim or story it becomes "oh but this is a conspiracy site!".
People discuss cats on ATS.
Is this a cat site?
People discuss religion on ATS.
Is this a religious site?
No. ATS is and always will be, a discussion site.
Stop deflecting with this terrible label!
Please.

"AboveTopSecret.com is the Internet's largest and most popular discussion board community dedicated to the intelligent exchange of ideas and debate on a wide range of "alternative topics" such as conspiracies, UFO's, paranormal, secret societies, political scandals, new world order, terrorism, and dozens of related topics on current events, politics, and government wrong-doing with poignant commentary from a diverse mix of users from all over the world."

From the info page. Isuppose from that one could break it into forum categories but it still covers conspiracies therefore making it at least partially a conspiracy site.

Semantics, you gotta love it!

I beg to differ some. You see it's both. ATS is a discussion site for conspiracies. Just read the meta tags and/or description.

I also refer you to a quote from the wiki:

Above Top Secret is a news discussion forum created by Simon Gray in 1999 as a discussion board for conspiracy, and a site for general information about conspiracy topics.

ATS not a conspiracy site.....Now that sounds like a real conspiracy to me.

I guess it actually is a place where conspiracies are hashed out, not really a conspiracy site.

The occasional cat thread does break up the "too much thinking" and relaxes the members.

The more i stay here, the more I get the feeling that it is a government ran site. There are some people here who will argue a new thread into the ground, without actually saying anything productive.

I like that description better.

I do think there is a lot of intentional mis-direction. Throw in a bunch of raving loons that destroy logical conversation, and make the label of conspiracy theories extra icky.

I take it you don't socialise at the pub very often otherwise you would realise it's part of the human condition to pound your personal opinion into someones head with the biggest hammer you can find... Especially after a couple of pints of craft beer.
Just like here though it's usually pointless as everyone else is doing the same thing and drowning any decent conversation out.

I'm sorry you don't like the title but this is first and foremost a conspiracy site. That other things get discussed doesn't change that. We discuss conspiracies in religion. We discuss secret societies and if you search for conspiracy web sites ATS is amongst the first to pop up.

www.google.com...=en-US&q=conspiracy+websites&spell=

Ok it is the first one to pop up.

It even says Above Top Secret- Conspiracy theories,UFOs, Paranormal. Right there in the website description. Why do you object to the title.?

My point is, discussing conspiracies does not make it a conspiracy site.
The label puts the site in a box it does not belong.

I'd consider it a conspiracy site because the largest group of forums seem to be:

Yep... Conspiracy related. There are a few more further down from that list. So, since the majority of forums in one group relate to conspiracies, I would consider it just that. Such as the way I would call an apple an apple and not a fruit containing the seeds, stem, and sometimes the leaf. Yeah, that might be a piss poor analogy but it works. If I type "Conspiracy Site" in google.. guess what comes up..

If a site is made up of cat pictures and UFOs and I go to it because of the UFOs, then it is a UFO site. If i come for the cats, then it's a Cat site. It's that easy.

I don't see what the fuss is about...

Has any one else noticed the vast conspiracy afoot to stop ATS from continuing to be a conspiracy site?

Although there is some truth to what you say, I believe that most people introduced themselves to ATS thanks to the conspiracy topics, and from there just rolled on to having discussions about cats and religion. But I doubt people here registered to ATS to talk about cats and religions, and then ended up seriously considering the conspiracy stuff.

Maybe that's how Facebook got their kick for conspiracies.

ATS is NOT a "conspiracy site"!

I'd say the biggest conspiracy here is the fact that, in your title, you put punctuation outside of the "parenthesis!" Who does that?

Ok, here is the problem.
Someone comes with the following theory: Elvis was actually a pot-bellied pig!!, no evidence, and even though that theory is complete nonsense, someone will then state, "but this is a conspiracy site!", no longer needing evidence or anything credible to back up that claim.
Understand?
