[warning: mild rant]
I believe in pay based upon work ethic. Case in point, you come to work, do your job (well hopefully) and go home, get paid.
The less frequent you need to take time off work (outside of vacation, comp and sick time) shows loyalty, dedication, and the harder you work and with
what attitude you complete it on a consistent basis....that boys and girls is what is ultimately rewarded.
I'm not going into details, but there are trends in workplace behavior and attendance, that people could classify as a 'general rule' and accept it
for what it is. But these days, many will whine and cry "not fair" - when it's their own choices in life that dictate their compensation and
longevity on a job.
If you're hired to do a job, and you do it until well until you make a choice, that's you're choice and nobody should expect nor demand to be
rewarded for that when it affects the company you work for. Especially since the person next in line can do the same job with more efficiency, and
less hassle from choices made outside of work. You're paid to do a job, if you start to slack off on any part of it, get ready to face the
consequences.
I'm NOT for anyone (Gov't or otherwise) telling me or anyone else what to pay employees. It'll be decided based upon performance, man, woman, makes
no difference. It's gotta be all about the work, the job, bottom line.
The less drama you cause for a company, the better. The companies are in it to make money (it's how they pay you) and getting people who share the
same vision to push the company forward. If they like what a job pays, great, if they don't, they can work harder or get another job. Period.
Getting the Gov't involve with these sorts of things never helps...it only makes things worse.
