I never thought I would see this come out of Russia especially with Vladimir Putin in power but according to the article Putin is 'Planting Russia's flag as the home of traditional Christianity'. The article further states that his tone is sounding some what like John Paul II whose Evangelium Vitae in 1995 denounced the West for it's embrace of a 'culture of death'.

What did Pope John Paul mean by moral crimes?

The West's capitulation to a sexual revolution of easy divorce, rampant promiscuity, pornography, homosexuality, feminism, abortion, same-sex marriage, euthanasia, assisted suicide — the displacement of Christian values by Hollywood values.

Russia seems to be standing up to what the article refers to as Western Paganism and is re-inventing itself as the leader of the Anti Western world.

But the war to be waged with the West is not with rockets. It is a cultural, social, moral war where Russia's role, in Putin's words, is to "prevent movement backward and downward, into chaotic darkness and a return to a primitive state."

One only has to see what the Russians have been doing over the last few years and it makes me wonder, is it all motivated by Religion? Some of the decisions and actions would be considered traditionally Christian.

In 2013, the Kremlin imposed a ban on homosexual propaganda, a ban on abortion advertising, a ban on abortions after 12 weeks and a ban on sacrilegious insults to religious believers.

"While the other super-powers march to a pagan world-view," writes WCF's Allan Carlson, "Russia is defending Judeo-Christian values. During the Soviet era, Western communists flocked to Moscow. This year, World Congress of Families VII will be held in Moscow, Sept. 10-12."

What an amazing world we live.. I do understand that prior to the Bolshevik revolution Russia was a Christian nation but after and from what I have seen through the media etc, I thought they were a godless country.. Now if the information is legitimate, Russia may just be the most religious Christian superpower in the world...

God takes sides?

'Course he does, and the titles wrong. He only ever sided with the Irish since nobody else believes in him. Putin is just experimenting

God takes the sides of the righteous because that's what religion is all about and if we were to compare between the USA and Russia going by deeds through religious teachings, Russia are miles ahead. It's unfortunate but it's most likely the truth.

God is on Russia's side imo - on the side of the West, of course Atheism is prevailing in policy decisions and then there are religious right fanatics who are certainly not upholding any traditional religious values. Think about this: Christianity has waned so much in the West that there is real concern about Islam spreading to replace the cultural vacuum.

Russia has the Eastern Orthodox Church, which is very traditional although it did branch off directly from Catholicism in 1054, during the great schism - Eastern Orthodox Church - when the Catholic Church split into East and West, Constantinople and Rome.

In Russia, the orthodox church plays a larger role than the Catholic Church, for example, plays in the U.S., which is also known as Babylon, nation of lies.

I'm just saying - that's my historical perspective on this. On the other hand, there is the Catholic Church and the Pope on the side of the West - and the West, at least in part, is dominated by Secular Humanism - not too bad of a force.

Very interesting premise for a thread, I am genuinely curious as to how this conversation develops.

Obvious, Putin is full of you know what and this is a stunt.

But, this is a potential clash of ideology. Communism under the USSR was strictly atheist but, Christian socialism was never eradicated.

Of the socialists on ATS, on which side would most fall?

Unfortunately, if it serves an individual or a country's purpose, they will always think God is on their side. Our own military prays to God before going into battle thinking God will keep them safe while they "kill" his own creation. Terrorists think they do God's bidding when they kill innocent people all over the world! These same people will defend the 10 commandments because they believe it's God's law. Yet they look away when "killing someone" is justified in their own eyes.

If God is a loving God, the last thing he would support is using violence, torture and killing, to settle the world's differences. It's one of the many hypocrisies found in religion today.

I don't really care personally.

All my country needs to know is I'm on their side. From President to the janitor, richest to the poorest, of all colors and backgrounds.
Free peoples and their aspirations for freedom.
Life, Liberty, Pursuit of Happiness- love for all people.

if god won't support that, Russia can have him.

I can see why you feel that way but at the same time one must turn to the religious teachings to understand whether those types of people are actually serving God. Anyone can call God to their side but if their cause contradicts the teachings of their religion then their call is nothing but a waste of time. So it isn't the religion that is hypocritical but the people who use it for their own objectives. By the law of religion, anyone who murders on the street, in a war or anywhere else does not have God with them at all because if they did they simply wouldn't murder in the first place. This works from the very top of a society to the very depths of society, there is no partiality.

The west has moved away from traditional Christianity and has created this new age thing .It's not a coincidence that the direction the west is moving is being directed by the Trilateral Commission .They have a plan for politics, religion , and a monetary system for their NWO .... "In order to support the radical new economic system called Technocracy, government is being reinvented from top to bottom. Unelected and unaccountable regional governmental organizations are rapidly usurping sovereignty and local control throughout the nation -- all according to Agenda 21 and "sustainable development."

What is Technocracy? It's a radical economic system intended to replace capitalism. It's also the biggest scam in the history of the world! Forget property rights. Forget freedom. Forget Unalienable Rights.

To find out more, you must see my new video of a presentation I gave in southern California in early January called GLOBALISM AND TECHNOCRACY www.augustforecast.com... Russia is looking more and more like a last bastion for Christianity ..All the best to them ....peace

I ask the same thing when I see teams pray before a game. Is that fair?

I suppose its fair, prayer produces positive thought and if both sides are thinking positive it would make a better game! God isn't competitive but I do see her being able to enjoy observing one.

I honestly don't think that God takes sides in man's petty squabbles. I'm sure that any divine all-powerful creator has more to worry about than our fussing and fighting.

I'd say God wouldn't be impressed in the slightest about anyone profiting financially from wars and conflicts given what is taken to obtain it.

Its your choice to continue reading....by the way,
But
I'm not only talking about oil, minerals, gas or fertile growing lands.
I'm not only talking about the financial gains to some heads of banks, insurance companies, health organisatiins, food suppliers, aid and charity heads who are handsome wages considering they ask for donations......how much of those who donate goes direct. It should be all of it.

Anyway to the topic at hand.
I would say would smile down on the one doing it for the right reasons not the money.

If there is a god then I would think that he/she/it would choose the most evil side based on everything that has happened in the world. Babies get raped or murdered. Innocent women and children die in car accidents. Many have been tortured. I think god has spoken. It says in the fairytale book that god is a jealous god and that there ARE other gods. I think we need a new god because this one seems evil to me to allow all the bad stuff that happens. We need a new god. I am boycotting god.

Anyways, Russia has a lot of Christians. I don't see why this should be turned into a competition.

It won't be Islam that fills the void. Throughout history religions have come and gone and its looking like it's Christianity's time to go.Islam's time too. The new religion will be, is science. The new miracles will come out of a laboratory not a church. Where moral fiber will come from in the future I don't know. I hope that we really have a better nature and a world that feeds and heals itself brings that nature out. The moral questions were always answered by the church in the past.

When my husband says things like that I have to remind him that God/ the creator doesn't have the limitations of man and that every second of every individuals life is not too much for it to pay attention to. Saying God's too busy is just ridiculous. The universe shows just how silly a limitation that is. I know the observer effect. Someone or somethings watching all that.

The point is not that God is actually taking sides. Since Constantine, world leaders have, from time to time, sought out uneasy alliance with various stripes of Christianity to bolster their hold on power. That's all that's happening here. Putin sees an opportunity and - like any politician - he's talking it.

And his "blessing" will be neither on Roman Catholicism nor Western Protestantism, but on Russian Orthodoxy. Anybody who would think otherwise is deluded.

So, no, God is not actually taking sides with anybody. It's just politics as usual.
