Very well could be it. DOD and the VA need to start doing more for these soldiers coming back home. Heck, I don't even know if more counseling is even the answer but there's got to be an answer to stop this.

With the current advancements of gunshot detection systems that can pinpoint 'active shooters' in a matter of seconds.

That give range, and bearing.

The events of today are ridiculous on so many levels, and should not even be happening.

Especially on military bases.

Is that standard procedure, or was there some reason to suspect airborne dangers?

I can't speak for Fort Hood, but out of the 4 years I've been driving in and out of the post that I am at I have not once been searched. A decal on your car and a drivers license that gets scanned is sufficient to get on in a few minutes. If your vehicle is not registered on post, a DL, insurance card, and registration is needed. Not difficult.

I know this is from way back in the thread. I'm trying to catch up.

Just wanted to say that prior to 9/11, we used to say the only thing you needed to infiltrate Hurlburt Field or Eglin Airforce base was a pizza and a crappy car! They very, very rarely did more than wave as you drove by. Once in a great while they would put a hand up, walk over to the car and look in the window, then when they saw the pizza, you went right on through.

Totally different story after 9/11, but I'm sure enough time has passed now that it has relaxed back to near that level of comfort again.

Yes, but Soldier on Soldier dispute sounds better for the news and gets people to watch.

Whatever you want to call it, a tragedy is still a tragedy and violence is still violence, whether it's an accountant or a soldier, it's just bad.

Nice try! The Quran and the Bible are full of violence and followers in some examples are pushed in that direction.

Whatever you think a Muslim is or isnt fine.... The religion is antithetical to Western Democracy and moreover the founding principles of the USA. You have the right to practice your religion how you see fit. But don't make me cite examples of how even mild mannered Muslims are subverting and trying to supplant our American laws and culture. Scott & White (S&W) hospital live conference now...saying 4 there now and 2 en route now (by air). Chest and neck injuries. Transported by air and land.

Of the 4 they have, some had one gunshot wound and some had multiples. They are not mentioning deaths.

Some are at (sp?) Darnall facility in I think Killeen. S&W is a level-1 trauma center.

Now he is saying they had 11? I'm just a bit confused.

ETA: The four dead headlines seem to be disappearing. I think CNN first said that number. Let's hope that was not right.

With 14 'injured' and 4 dead sounds like it was more than just 'soldier on soldier' violence.

Of course that is if those numbers are accurate.

I am viewing the cable channels and it seems they are overflowing this incident.
It boils down to a relatively minor shooting incident so far not an incident at all like past mass events.

Strange…is this just addicted media wanting another story they can obsess over?

Everybody…chill out we can thank God that this looks like a relatively minor event.
It won’t be another national obsessional event like the missing plane and past events.

Does his lack of action surprise you or anyone else anymore.

After the last shooting they should have had actions in place for this kind of situation by now.

The Homeland Security source, who stressed the information was preliminary, added that there was "currently no [counter terrorism] nexus" and said it appears the shooter killed himself.
