There seems to be a plethora of threads on Global-Climate-Change-Doom-Scare-OMG.

Yes, I am a skeptic. But far from an Overlord. (LOLZ)

But wouldn't it be interesting for those of us to actually get a scientist on ATS instead of regurgitating opinions and selected articles back and forth?

I humbly submit my request.

I'm for the idea.

But, beez, I have to say, that if I were one of these said scientists and read the way you put that, I'd have some doubt about open-mindedness around here. Just saying.

People here won't change my opinion.

Perhaps a scientist who actually studies the issue might.

Hell, get me to change my mind and anyone might believe the drama.

One scientist here might change your opinion when there are thousands of papers by thousands of scientists on this subject that haven't?

I get what you're saying, but I'm a skeptic too

As much as I try, when I ask papers or even youtube videos questions, they don't talk back to me.

I would love to see it, face the ATS Skeptics.

I think they would leave here doing the "Ralph Kramden"

Good idea....

But how to choose a scientist that would be unbiased & open minded--that isn't already swayed one way or another due to a political agenda/affiliation or such, that is the real trick

I have read many 'expert' opinions that vary far and wide from one another

Still, a very good suggestion

If just looking outside hasn't changed your opinion, I don't know what will.

Have you seen photos of this year's Iditarod race? Snow's a No-Show: 8 Images of the Roughest Iditarod Yet

Anyway, I'm actually trying to get both a highly-regarded climatologist and economist for AMA's, or more. Stay tuned.

It's been my experience that real scientists are inherently biased in one strong direction: science.

I don't know if it'll sway me one way or the other.

But thank you for working on it.

SKEPTIC.... If you are still "around" on this thread.

Could you please considered some type of Military Higher Up (retired of course) that would be willing and able to talk to us.

And an NASA type.... Hopefully one that has been to Space.

Thank you Beezer and the Owners for this "feature" on ATS> LOVING IT!

I respect & understand that....

Often times, when reading for example on Global Warming, many scientists differ on opinions on that topic

--Man Made VS. Natural Climate Change--

That's what I meant about someone that is not influence other than by Science as you stated
It would make for a good 'AMA' guest regardless!!!

And your idea of a climatologist and an economist are both great ideas
They had better be prepared for a host of questions, to be sure!

Yeah, but let's get a couple so we know that we're getting good information. We could get a Doomsayer or a Big-Oil-Hands in the back pocket guy. If we get a few of em, we'll get a good, real sample.

A "climate scientist"? Isn't that an oxymoron? Don't we have enough hoaxers on the boards already?

I think this is a great idea.

Climate Science, as with all other sciences, are never settled. This is not to say that I am a skeptic, on the contrary, I firmly believe we are seeing strong evidence of global climate change.

What I am skeptical about is whether we can do anything about it or not. I am also skeptical of how politicians seem to be jumping out of the woodwork over the last 10 to 15 years offering solutions that would simply make them richer and everyone else poorer.

Anthropogenic climate change is real. It is happening. But I don't believe government has a solution to the problem, I also don't believe that pre-existing factors in natural climate changes are not present in the changes we are seeing. I believe that the man-made portion of this is simply a cog in the overall machinery of the Earth's climate. What changes we can make depend entirely on our ability to innovate our use of energy now and in the future. There is only so much we can do without creating a world entirely destitute.

I believe the science of the matter has been largely hurt by politicians on BOTH sides. No data can be interpreted without some blowhard on the left screaming "we're doomed if we don't tax everything we do to death" or some head in the sand right winger screaming "it's all a lie!".

Let's get the facts. Then we can find solutions. This whole debate and the solutions we could have achieved by now has been horribly marred by political discourse of the lowest kind.

So yes, Beez. Let's get a qualified climatologist in here and lets have a real discussion. Because I am truly sick of the politicized and unscientific discourse we've been having on this issue for 15 years.

I think this is a great idea IF the person was involved with an IPCC report, especially the latest one. I've been reading that report and I think that some folks might be surprised at what that scientist will say. I have no interest in talking to an activist who is interpreting someone else's work for whatever reason, credentialed or not.

How about the dissenting Climate scientist who had his name removed from the "alarmist" UN report?
He's not biased at all and is against the "doom porn" scenario as much as you.

www.theguardian.com...

www.reuters.com...

Funnily enough though he still understands that the threat is very real and that climate change is a fact and that it is happening.
He just doesn't like the way it's been handled and doesn't think it's been open, honest and fair.

I think you'll like him.
