The Insurance companies are Nazis, they need to be put down in their place.

Sounds like a fascist comment to me.

Really 'put in their place' !

Government, and those people who 'gave' us the ACA are the ones who need to be put in their place.

Hey, I am not a right winger, sounds like an ignorant comment to me.

Universal Healthcare

So anytime anyone can explain how this law is fair (or even affordable) I am ready to listen.

They can't do that.

Being forced to buy something is not 'fair'.

In anyway shape or form.

Even more so they specifically target young people to pay for that crap.

Since they are healthy, and most of them will go for decade or two without ever using it.

They wanted the young to bank roll the program.

Ignorant eh ?

The right wingers are those who are supporting the ACA.

Universal ignorance because both medicare, and medicaid are a taste of 'universal healthcare'.

Everyone using it, hardly anyone paying for it.

That is nothing, but a monopoly.

The irony is that is exactly what the insurance companies want...

Did you think it was fair when insurance companies left people to die after they figured out ways to rescind policies on policy holders???

Stop lying.

The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA)[1] is an act of the United States Congress, passed in 1986 as part of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA). It requires hospitals to provide emergency health care treatment to anyone needing it regardless of citizenship, legal status, or ability to pay. There are no reimbursement provisions

This is why we must keep pushing for universal healthcare.

Obama was right in responding to the healthcare crisis, but he did not go far enough and should of never even tried to appease Republicans because they wanted to maintain the old system rescission and all .

Don't like Obamacare, well then lets get universal coverage going

I actually agree. Considering how much money is spent on healthcare, insurance and government subsidies, etc.....we could easily have a universal system that covers everyone and allows the medical industry to profit. But if we did that, it would make the insurance companies obsolete. Can't have that can we?

Obama didn't go far enough, as you said, and without going straight to Universal HC we could have at least implemented a "public option". This didn't happen because the PO was considered "socialist", when in fact it's based on the capitalist idea of "buying in bulk".

Why not just give 100% of our pay to government if we're going this route?

They can provide food, housing, medi-. . . . . oh wait.

It's been done.

Well ACA is very close to Newt Gingrich's plan that was very popular with the right wing crowd. The LAST GOP presidential nominee helped design the mechanisms that are a key part to Obama care.

And all my medicare patients love it, their copay is $5-10 dollars, medicare is cheaper to run than private insurance and they pay providers on time.

It is not a monopoly, people like you can opt out and/or buy private insurance just like they do all over the world.

Now now, we don't have to take it to that extreme. Universal healthcare is not reasonable considering the current political and economic atmosphere, but that's not to say that the idea is not sound.

That's why I think a public option would have been better and allowed people to voluntarily combine their resources.

I think that's what it ultimately comes down to. Everything. All of this. Right there.

One world view and way of thinking considers the private sector evil, bad and the root of all which ails us...while Government can solve it.

The other feels that Government is the source of the problems, as much or more than the private sector following their rules, and less government is more.

All the topics and all the issues..in the end..boil down to that I think. The ACA is really a focus for highlighting those two almost mutually exclusive world views.

Kind of an old story (from yesterday) but several news sites are reporting that the affordable care act is on track to meet the goal of 7 million enrollments.

WASHINGTON (CBSNewYork/AP) –The deadline to sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act passed at midnight Monday night. At 11 p.m., it appeared that the Affordable Care Act would meet its target of 7 million enrollees. But earlier Monday, millions of Americans were still struggling to enroll as they worked against the clock. As CBS 2’s Dick Brennan reported, in the Bronx Monday, there was a line to sign up.

Well, first off let me say that I'm sort of happy that people were able to fight off all of the lies, misinformation and fear mongering that was and still is, being spread around by various groups, TV "news" stations and radio hosts.

There are now over 7 million people that have health insurance, who didn't have it several days ago.

That in my opinion is a step forward.

The state of denial may begin now

lets just assume the 7 million people did not have insurance at ALL and were not kicked out of there prior insurance plans, we know that's not true because I have many friends who had to sign up because they where dropped.

So 7 million out of 30 million people signed up who did not have insurance. Sounds like a giant RED "F" to me. O wait, we now practice common core in schools now so im sure some common core teacher and spin this into an A+

In gods name why ?

Why support forming the largest most powerful monopoly this country has ever seen ?

Only one place to shop, and if you didn't like the 'service' there is no other place to go.

Hell people would not stand it if all the big oil companies form a super monopoly.

People would not stand for it if all the bankers form a super monoplogy.

But 'apparently' some people thinks GOVERNMENT can run business better than they can.

Last time I checked the government is in massive debt, massive corruption, massive abuses of power

That makes private business in this country look like amateurs.

The truth of it all is the private healthcare runs circles around government ran healthcare as we have seen with medicare, and medicaid.

That Sheep is a bridge too far, and should never EVER be crossed.

The power of life, and death itself, and our government does not have a great track record of the past 20 years, or the last 100.

But there are many of us in the middle that think the private-sector is out of control, yet vital to our economy and what America is. And on the other hand, believes government is out of control, yet necessary and if properly structured could help all Americans a little bit more.

Does the truth hurt you? Or are you a share holder in American insurance? Cause you sure jump to corporations and their defense, man! HIGH JUMP!

The EMTALA applies to EMERGENCIES

CANCER is not deemed an emergency

ALS is not deemed an emergency

POST STROKE CARE is not deemed an emergency

CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE is not deemed an emergency

POST ACCIDENT CARE is not an emergency

DIABETES is not deemed an emergency

END STAGE RENAL DISEASE is not deemed an emergency

AIDS is not deemed and emergency

(THIS LIST CAN GO ON FOR DAYS)

As you can see, EMTALA does nothing to help the hundreds of thousands of chronic patients who had their policies rescinded in the late 40 plus years. Just pretend it didn't happen, I know you wont let us down

An estimated 45 million people (at least) were uninsured before the exchanges opened up. LA Times

I would have thought that response would have been in the tens of millions right away.

They insured 20% (I'm being generous here) of the uninsured.... not counting those who lost coverage due to the enactment of the ACA itself.

What a success!

Common core studies would agree, 20% equals success.

We're talking hypothetically, Neo.

Given the current state of government and the ideologies of political powers, it would never happen. In theory, UHC would be the best as no one is left out.

Sadly, corruption, politics and money-interests will not allow that to happen.

But just remember that I am talking theory.

What we're all forgetting is that healthcare is NOT a right.

It is a commodity.

Now being subsidized by the government.

What we need is opt in Medicare for ALL.

It's not too late, the future is wide open.

you kidding me? you know the new rules for medicare??

If your on medicare its free right?

no, when you die, the state steps in and liquidates your assets, house, car, everything, to pay for all your past bills leaving nothing for your kids to inherit.

I guess Marxists would rejoice over that.

Here's some truth.

Never seen anyone turned away from medicare, or medicaid.

Gasp!

Now back to them 'evil' insurance companies.

Whose job is to pay the GD bills.

Hospitals charge the people.
