I think they should carbon tax every pound of beef sold and put all those billions into Al Gore's carbon tax fund....

Al Gore sure has a lot of power over you guys. One mention his name and all science goes out the door!

See the post below yours. Got anything but insults? I brought facts, links, and articles to the table. You?

Nada.

I didn't bring everything inuding the kitchen sink, I simply pointed out how it's all linked to one huge, fat, green failure.

Like it or not, it is all linked. All a part of the big picture. Nothing I have pointed out can be refuted, because they are facts, and DO relate to the discussion.

Now, your opinion may vary, that's fine. But, opinion is not the same as facts.

So sorry that bothers you, but, I would rather see you attacking that facts, and not the poster.

Unless, of course, you have nothing else?

You brought propaganda, and you catered to the negative emotions that some associate with Obama.

Green is the way of the future. Now I am sorry if you are an oil tycoon or a billionaire, but it is not to late to realize that your billions are tied up in a technology that is over 100 years old now. The totality of Earth systems have more than enough energy to meet all our needs. Maybe you should reinvest your personal stake in the oil business and put into a growth market like solar, but you can't be mad that many of us want to move away from oil already.

Why should humanity (or Americans since the rest don't matter) have to continue to pay for a resource that pollutes the air, the water and our bodies?

We could get the same results, FOR LESS and forgo all the aerosol carcinogens that humans squirt out every second of everyday.

Oil tycoons like yourself are clearly invested in the success of Oil, but I suggest that you read the writing on the wall.

:-)

Rationalization, insulating behavior, mistrust, fear and animosity are going to make it a pretty close call. Not to mention humorless anti-intellectualism

But, onward and upward...we have no choice

Neither would the gentlemen who fund the anti-science opposition. It's not like they make any money or anything lol

Obama, Pelosi, Feinstein, Boxer and Reid can't keep their mouth shut, so the methane will keep spewing.

Has anybody cited any facts and statistics about this cow flatulence?

How much CO2 is actually going into the air?

How do they actually propose to limit this?

The whole White House memo looks like another way to further the authoritarianism and totalitarianism that many people seem to be in favor of.

I may have found the solution guys, a flatulence backpack!

Argentina has more than 55 million cows, making it a leading producer of beef. In the study, the scientists were surprised to discover that a standard 550-kg cow produces between 800 to 1,000 liters of emissions, including methane, each day.
In their study, the researchers attached balloon-like plastic packs to the backs of at least 10 cows. A tube running to the animals´ stomachs collected the gas inside the backpacks, which were then hung from the roof of the corral for analysis.

It's only a matter of time before they regulate the air we breathe, the rain that falls, the sun that shines, all in the name of the new religion of Global-Climate-Change-Warming-Cooling-It-Might-Rain-Later-Or-Not.

They already regulate the rain that falls in some states/municipalities.

ATS thread:
www.abovetopsecret.com...

Do a search for "fine for collecting rainwater" and you will at least see Utah and Oregon. There may be others. And I'd imagine the Southwest (Arizona, New Mexico, maybe Texas) might have similar laws in varying municipalities.

/sigh

The laws that limit the use of rainwater collection are in States like Colorado where precipitation is a rare commodity (less than 15 inches per year on average.) Rainwater has been managed in Colorado for well over 100 YEARS. If you want to know the truth of the matter, research "Water Wars of 1874" as well as Article XVI of the Colorado Constitution enacted in 1876 ("Synopsis of Colorado Water Law - Colorado Department of Natural Resources

The laws that have been put in place recently are ENCOURAGING the greater collection and use of rainwater, not PREVENTING it.

State Rainwater Harvesting Statutes, Programs and Legislation

Don't let facts ruin a good anti-guvment rant though ... (PS: These are STATE laws, you know, the same STATES that so many want to empower over the Federal Government?)

From the EPA:

Methane (CH4) is the second most prevalent greenhouse gas emitted in the United States from human activities

In 2011, CH4 accounted for about 9% of all U.S. greenhouse gas emissions from human activities

Globally, over 60% of total CH4 emissions come from human activities

Cows are not the problem.

The 'problem' is humans.

Amen

We really don't want to see that in the mirror though. I imagine you also saw how many x's more problematic methane in the atmosphere is to Co2. Methane isn't near as long, but far more potent as I recall the EPA page on it.

Sounds logical.

And sounds like it could be nature at work too.

I wonder how they'll *regulate* nature?

Glad you can finally admit it to yourself.

People who oppose trying to mitigate environmental problems are in fact the biggest problem facing the environment. If you don't care about the environment, you will do things to accelerate the problems facing the environment.

But just to point it out here...

If you agree humans are the "problem"

Logically it would follow that humans can also facilitate a solution, or at least mitigate the "problem".

The common name for this process = REGULATION

Ha! Do you think they have a script? Or they have guidelines maybe.
It's literally the same stuff over and over and you touched on some of it there.
So incredibly predictable.

Here (again) is the actual fact-sheet from the White House website: FACT SHEET: Climate Action Plan - whitehouse.gov

The "item" that has been over-dramatized, mischaracterized and frankly, misrepresented herein as "cow flatulence" is here:

Agriculture: In June, in partnership with the dairy industry, the USDA, EPA and DOE will jointly release a “Biogas Roadmap” outlining voluntary strategies to accelerate adoption of methane digesters and other cost-effective technologies to reduce U.S. dairy sector greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2020.

There are 970 words in the Fact Sheet.

The bit here about "Agriculture" that could be twisted to refer to "cow flatulence" is 46.

All the hullabaloo here is about a mere 4.7% of the overall plan and it's not even actually discussing that. Why?

Because the intention is not to really discuss the issues, the intention here on the part of the OP and "the usual suspects," in my opinion, is to ridicule the Obama Administration.

Which is fine, we're all welcome to our political peccadillos, but let's not pretend, any of us, that we're being factual, reasonable, or rational about the topic. That we're intellectually discussing the pros and cons of the President's energy policy, or, trying to suggest any other alternatives. Or, that we're fulfilling the challenge of the ATS forum to DENY IGNORANCE.

Here's an idea:

Right-wingers (and some faux right-wingers masquerading as "both-sides-are-the-samers") just state at the beginning of each thread of this type a general disclaimer, something like: "Hey everyone, here's another Obama-bashing thread in which we're going to present half-truths, bombast, opinion-pieces, political propaganda, and similar silliness and then pretend like this spew is the most reasonable, rational fact-based discussion possible and pat ourselves on the back for our dishonesty. We'll be dogpiling anyone who disagrees with our jibes, disinformation, lies and damned lies and shrilly and repeatedly claim that they are merely liberal, socialist, communist, progressive, government shills and/or idiots (as all these terms seem to be exactly equal in the minds of many here) diverting any real discussion about any topic into a mindless recitation of the most blatant right-wing talking points even while claiming that we merely don't like big government and that both 'sides' are equally bad when it is painfully obvious which side of the political bread gets our butter."

Do that, and I think many of us might avoid your topics outright.

Peace out.

Why did the White House put it in there then if they considered it so "small"?

I say there's a hidden agenda of over regulation and tax zealously.

The current administration is *All About* authoritarianism and totalitarianism.

Watch how they sneak this into some future legislation that has a gun to somebody's head.

The White House put "it" in there because it's a part of the overall plan ... NOT the totality of overall plan as the OP article and position and several posts are suggesting. This is one small part of an overall initiative.

I can't help with the belief that everything government does is a hidden agenda or a conspiracy, because it's not.

I can't help with the belief that all regulation is over-regulation and is inherently evil and anti-business, because it's not.

I can't help with the belief that the only intent of government is to increase taxes, because it's not.

I can't help with the belief that the Obama administration is totalitarian, because it's not.

I can't help with the belief that the Obama administration is authoritarian, because, by nature, all governance is authoritarian.
