Liberals, conservatives see the same problem, they just have different solutions.

Progressives (in my humble opinion) create problems so they can transform, reshape, control, dominate.

In all honesty that pretty much describes all political parties ..

But that's what completely throws me off because I've always understood the word progressive to mean "to advance, move forward". Therefore, to progress being a good thing, not a bad thing... in my mind.

But the American definition seems to be completely the opposite ?

Progressives idea of progress is exactly what inhibits progress. Taking the name 'progressives' is a bit misleading if you have a good head on your shoulders.

They think that we will progress by ridding the world of anything that may, possibly, does, could, or sorta maybe hurt someones feelings. The whole 'life is a bitch' thing doesn't really seem to sit well with them.

Instead of losing, then practicing more, coordinating better, and getting stronger in order to win next time; they would rather just let everyone be a winner regardless.

So instead of progressing (getting stronger, better, faster, smarter), they just call it even.

And they'd put you in a concentration camp "for the greater good" in a second if they could get away with it. There are already progressive professors who want to put climate change "deniers" in prison. The sentiment is out there. I don't recall who said it: "Communists are liberals in a hurry." But look what Stain did. "Progressives" are a scary bunch. They want what they want and to hell with anyone who stands in their way.

Instead of looking up progressive as a word, try looking up the progressive movement. That's what you are really looking for

See now what you guys are describing doesn't sound anything like what the term "progressive" actually means.

You guys are describing, what sounds to me, like more of a communist type of ideology: Where everyone is on equal footing, no matter what.

Not necessarily a bad thing per se (equal footing), but of course anything taken to the extreme can be a bad thing... But I think you get the gist of what I'm trying to say:

Your definitions sound more communist (nobody ahead of anyone else) than progressive (moving forward).

Might I say to your entire rant, get over it. This world doesn't revolve around you and your narcisstic point of view. In this thread I'd say otherwise, but over here 'in reality' your very narrow opinion on such things as politics/money is NOT a universal truth and we do need to abide by your set of standards.

In other words, your opinion? Get over it. It stinks. Just like mine. Want to tell me to get over mine? Cool. Then we can play key-board warrior and sling baseless, grandiloquent exposition at one another. And believe me, I'm well rehearsed in this field.

Also: When referring to "the elites," progressives, liberals, or whatever purposefully vague derogatory label you choose to purport with nothing but a stinky opinion: Get over it princess.

Make sure they dont know that most huge corporations and individuals actually spend damn near equivalent amounts on campaigns...
If the general public knew it was nothing more than Hollywood East, they wouldn't care...nearly all politicians are a mouthpiece for another entity or better entities...
The sooner one realizes their vote does not matter the better.

Maybe that's where I'm going wrong. I'm looking up the definition of the word "progressive", when I should actually be reading up on American politics.

I'm guessing words/descriptions/labels don't necessarily flow with Webster's when it comes to the choices of words Americans use for political/ideological labels then ?

If that was the problem, why do so many of us make plenty of money but still complain on the behalf of others? I never hear of these poor people because most of them don't have internet. I mostly hear from people like me who make plenty and still see the injustice. And, no, I don't think we should take anybody's money.

Plenty of us liberals like guns. We have a great freedom in our hands and it has its quirks. Wanting to change the method we acquire guns is not the same as wanting to take away the 2nd amendment. I don't think we should register them but I'd sure like to require everybody to take classes before being able to own one (just like a concealed permit). I don't even care if the guy selling you a shotgun writes down the name on your permit; just that he sees you know how to use it and won't hand it to your toddler.

I know there is a compromise somewhere that will satisfy most Americans because most Americans don't agree with either extreme.

Again, the media likes to point out all these people and make spectacles of the issue. Just like it's difficult to find a story about a normal non-racist religious conservative in the news, it's equally hard to find a story about an atheist liberal who's not militantly opposed to Christianity.

You know that neither of those molds are true for 90% of your countrymen.

I know better than to get into this one but... yeah. Both sides are pretty misrepresented here, as well.

In any case, I've seen you get more and more annoyed on ATS by people on the other side of the fence when you used to be fully aware that the guys sitting on top of the fence duking it out on camera don't represent any of us.

Let me see if I have this straight... If I were to put it in American politicanese speak, then would I be correct by saying a "progressive" is a liberal-communist type of ideology ?

All of these terms have been confused over the last century. Liberal used to mean pro free market and minimal or non-existent government economic intervention. The opposite of liberal was socialist.

Progressive is simply a measure of in motion vs stationary. Progress can be had in any direction. The opposite of progressive is status quoism.

Conservative simply means resisting change so, a Democrat in America should be considered a conservative as soon as progressive liberals begin to roll back the welfare state while they attempt to preserve the status quo.

It's all in the perspective, better to state one's beliefs in plain language than adopt a standard whose meaning is elusive if you wish to not be misunderstood.

Agreed.

Political/ideological labels are completely different from one country to the next, and that's why it's best to stay away from that type of speak and just simply stick with everyday vocabulary instead... especially when in an international public medium like ATS, unless you're specifically in the US Political Madness forum. Otherwise it just causes unnecessary chaos and confusion.

(not to mention generalizing anything or anyone is just all around poor logic at the best of times)

I keep trying to sway beez away from this bad habit of his... but he's not taking the bait hint constructive criticism carrot.
