Genetic mugshot recreates faces from nothing but DNA.

Hey guys CJ here, I found something I thought folks round here might appreciate or hate.

So I was cruising around the internet I stumbled upon this interesting bit of info.
Apparently image specialist and geneticist have come up with the means to recreate the face of a subject based on genetic markers and variants from DNA.

While these techniques are still in their infancy the seem to be on track to producing full facial recreations based on genetic material from samples of DNA. Here is the link to the article.

This could be a huge help in solving crimes where the dna of the perpetrator isn't in any data base .
Here is a sample of a recreation they were able to do based on current techniques.




To me this is impressive considering that they say this technique is in its infancy.

This ought to get some conspiracy wheels turning. What say you ATS?
Wonderful crime solving tool of the future, or another wrench in the tool box for the TPTB.

Im leaning towards helpful tool in crime solving.

those are 2 different women. not even close. facial expressions and symmetry are way off so if real? Useless.

The pictures are far closer than forensic composite drawings, so I can see how it would help in capturing perpetrators.

I can also see it being used in the 'designer baby' field. Don't like the way your fetus will look? Abort; try again.
Every new discovery seems to have the potential of being a double-edged sword.

Yea I'd say noses eye placement and chin are the ones the hit on really well.
Considering this is from a little dna tho... I'm satisfied with what they can do so far.

Great.. Now the question is..

How do we protect against the misuse of this for Our Privacy? I'm no criminal and I do NOT want just anyone being able to look at me through my DNA - it's thwarts my right to privacy.

You know what though.. I'm the only one so far who sees this downside.. Most folks will see the good and say, YES, we Must have this. Then when they Use it Against You you will only have yourselves to blame. Thats how every evil gets into our society - it sneaks in under the guise of something good.

This DNA Picture stuff, thats kin to Terrorism - NO one should have this technology Period !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

That's just amazing! It looks like there's some male preference in the process, though, and also a quirk in the aging. Wonder why they didn't duplicate the same glance with the eyes. Maybe that would have made it just too uncannily similar!

Considering this is still in it's infancy, it's pretty damn close I think.

Obviously the more we learn about DNA/genetics the more precise the technology will become.

However, there are things that could thwart the tech... Hair dye, hair style, plastic surgery and even if they were wearing glasses at the time of the incident can't be taken taken in to account by the software, though a police sketch can suffer the same weaknesses I guess...
