He was excommunicated from the WBC. Why would the funeral be there?

I'd love to know why his own church excommunicated him.

Maybe they caught him listening to a "Queen" album

According to his daughter Margie, there will be no funeral. Guessing that already know how it will turn out. Completely deserved I think....not being able to have a funeral for fear of protesters. I think this is the most fitting thing of all. Being put in the ground with nobody to care. Either way, hope they bury him somewhere very private because his grave is sure to be vandalized on a daily basis for a while.

A friend took a photo of me laying on Billy Sunday's grave drinking a bottle of beer (Sunday was a noted anti-liquor campaigner). I shudder (either in delight or in horror) at what people would do on Phelps' grave.

Awesome. I'm thinking you'd be a fun person to know in real life.

Thank you, one of the two or three nicest compliments I've had here. Sunday's grave is pretty near that of the Haymarket Martyrs I wrote you about some time ago (the Haymarket grave area, Emma Goldman is there too, is informally known as the Arlington National Cemetery of the Left).

Maybe this funeral would be a good time and place for a "gay pride" parade?
How can I write a second line which will compliment this?

From what I understand Phelps was excommunicated because he proposed that members of the WBC treat each other kinder. Apparently, there was an argument among the "elders" and they removed one of his relatives from her leadership position in the church. Which Phelps responded to by proposing a "kinder, gentler treatment of church members"
