www.bbc.com...

A landmark effort by the Indian state of Karnataka to connect isolated protected forests could lead to the building of Asia's largest unbroken forest,

Protected areas cover nearly 5% of India's land mass and come under strict legal protection that makes conversion of land for non-forestry purposes difficult. Tiger reserves and national parks do not allow human settlements.

Karnataka has already built three unbroken forest landscapes spread over more than one million hectares along the Western Ghats, a mountain range that runs along the western coast of India. It is also a Unesco World Heritage site and one of the eight hottest biological hotspots of the world.

We have not relocated a single village for this expansion
Since then, nearly 1,700 sq km was added to three national parks and five wildlife sanctuaries. Another 906 sq km was notified as a new sanctuary,

This will be Great news for the Endangered Tiger population , Tiger population has been on the rise in India and Nepal by 16% in India and by almost 60% in Nepal in the last 4 years .. Now considering there are "shoot at sight" orders given to forest security personal for poachers am hoping to hear more good news for the Tiger populations ...

I request the poverty porn Brigade to resist from making smart comments

Thanks OP. Great news. I love Tigers, they are truly a beautiful creature. I had the fortunate to play with adolescent tigers in Thailand. They are very playful. Too bad they grow so big. Would love to have one as my guardian
