With all the talk here about privacy, how would you rank in this technological era?

Besides ATS, how would you rate your digital footprint on a scale of 1-5?

Personally I do not participate in social media because I choose not to. I do frequent a few choice forums that peak my interests but do not subscribe to the mainstream data stripping sites like facebook or twitter.

So I would rate myself a 2.

How would you rank and what would be your reasoning?

I don't know how I rank. I have facebook, but seldom post anything more than smart alec comments on what my kids post, and I play Words With Friends. That's it.
I don't own a cell phone, but do have wireless internet in the house.
The only other site I use is ATS.
Do I get a '1' ?

Will give it a try. I have no facebook, twitter or any other accounts except ATS. Emails all performed through an anonymous email account. Ancient cellphone that only get's the battery put in when I need to make a call. Cell phone is a burner. Only connect to the internet from behind 3 firewalls. Proxies if going to dangerous web sites (like Google.) No GPS except a detachable USB version that's always disconnected unless needed. No valid pics online anywhere.

Did I win?

I have two Facebook accounts. One is for professional reference only. Just boring basic information and "friends" with professional work field related people. It's sole purpose is to appease the occasional nosy prospective employer. My 2nd Facebook account is for staying in touch with family. I check in there *maybe* once a month.

I have a Twitter account, but I'll be damned if I can remember the login information. No worries.

If you Google my name, you'll realize that I share the same name as a porn star. (really) Anyone attempting to search for me via Google search will be greeted with over 65 million query results. Some guys may enjoy the challenge, but of those 65+ million results, none pertain to me. LOL Happy hunting regardless.

I own two domains. My main domain is myname.net. I run my own mail server so that I can bypass using sites like Gmail, Yahoo or MSN. MyName@MyName.Net looks nicer than crazylady1963@yahoo.com I also have total control over spam filtering, security, etc.

My 2nd domain is used strictly for registering on websites and in forums. Each site I register on uses a different email address. As an example, if I register for ATS, I use ats@my2nddomaain.com. If I register on the CNN website, I use CNN@my2nddomain.com. If I get spammed by a company, I can easily track which site they got my info from simply by looking at the email address the spam was sent to. If I get spam that is sent to proflowers@my2nddomain.net, I know that they probably received my info from proflowers.com.

Related to the last paragraph, when I need to provide personal information for website registration, I usually register using my cat's name, the address of the local landfill, and my ex husband's date of birth.

There is exactly ONE picture of me online, a very professional picture only associated with my professional credentials and registration.

Overall I'd rate my digital footprint as 3/5.

I have 6 facebook accounts, all with different information (all true).

How does that rate?

I don't think so. You'd need to enter 'The World's Most Paranoid' contest to win, and I'd give you a 10.

As far as rating you, you're probably a lot lower than The OP is.

This site and one other site are the only ones I go to on a regular basis, and a few years back I made a vow to never come up in a search, and so far so good, except for some of those pay-me-for info sites, which actually has erroneous data.

So I would hope to be able to say a 1, but honestly you never really know what the great database in the sky knows when they establish keys on information provided by your ISP, and pretty much everyone's phone and car and home computer are now "paired." The connections just go on and on.

According to the various "digital footprint" surveys: NYC DOE , Survey , EMC Calc , I'm non-existent.

One actually said I was a "newbie" on the Internet despite having been "online" in one form or another since 1989.
