Svoboda are not "in power", they hold 4 Ministry positions out of 20 and I am finding it extremely hard to find any news source, be it Russian, British, French or Tutsi which says that they are outlawing anything to do with Tartars.

Care to furnish us with any links?

As for the OP, Tartars have lived in the are for longer Russians have and were forced off their land and had their population decimated during the Soviet era, so if anyone should be "reclaiming Crimea" it should be them, not the Russians and there is no love lost between the two.

Tell that to the TV station manager who was forced to resign by the Minister of Freespeech..

Indeed - in fact the bulk of the Russian population in Crimea was put there after WW2 after the deportations of the actual locals. Any claim as to it having been an "integral" part of Russia is simply baseless and ignores the fact they colonised the peninsula during the Soviet Empire.

One crazy arse MP and his buddies does not a regime make.

It is no different to the actions of the Pro-Russian lot forcing Crimean military to leave their bases under threats of violence.

Fact of the matter is, you claimed they were "in power", when they are not. Still no linkies for the Tartar claims as well....

Of course they are.

The FSB (Kind of their FBI)
and the SVR (Their version of our CIA)

did the very same things when they took over the Republic of Georgia...

Same old game just different players

i have to ask why people are so intent on completely ignoring the most important fact in this issue. they are NOT kicking them off something like ancestral land or something like that. they are relocating squatters. this is NORMAL for any country to do. Canada does it, the Philippines does it. any country that has "squatter areas" likely do this. thing is squatters have NO LEGAL CLAIM on the land they inhabit. it is land they are STEALING from someone else. they don't ask permission, they don't rent or buy the land. they just find a place without a building and put up their home. Russia in this instance is doing almost exactly what the Philippines does. they move them out. (and a lot of the time it requires a mini WAR to achieve). yes it sounds cruel, but they are also PROVIDING housing that is LEGAL, and in all honesty SAFER. due to actually being built properly as opposed to thrown together of scrap material they find and steal.

too bad they didn't put in pictures of these squatter areas. i wonder if these Tartar squatter areas are as bad as the ones in the Philippines? that is tiny homes, often times they barely have room for a small bed for the family to share. they are built haphazardly which means that trying to get things like a fire truck in is almost impossible, in fact when a home in a squatter area in the Manila area catches fire there are typically hundreds if not thousands of people suddenly without a home, who have lost everything they own. as the small size, building materials, and the fact they are packed together like sardines, means when one goes up everything surrounding them does as well. homes are built on top of other homes. no building codes are followed at all, they are built out of whatever materials they can get there hands on, metal, wood, old barrels, cheap cement blocks, plastic tarps you name it they use it. if they actually have electricity, it is all "home wired" without pesky, expensive things like circuit breakers (and lots of times it is people stealing power by tapping into existing electrical lines). most cooking is done on small coal burning units, tho if they have electricity hotplates may be used. roofs can be made of tin, plastic tarps, wood, palm fronds, again whatever materials are at hand. they sometimes even have old tires on then to hold down the roof in wind. candles and lanterns as well as open fires may be used for lighting, when there is no electric power.

this is nothing like moving the Indians around in North America at all. they are not being removed from their land, they are being removed from someone else's land. and they are even receiving land for FREE just by moving off land they don't even own. sounds like an awesome deal to me. this is just being used as yet more anti-Russian propaganda to rile people up, and demonize the Russians. when the reality is that this happens all around the world every day.

"Squatters" that have only recently been allowed to return to the land they occupied perfectly "legally" since they were forcibly evicted by Stalin to Siberia.....

Little thing you missed out there...

No links to stories? Google the news sometime, I ain't your butler, I would assume most people on here have seen the news, regardless of where it is from and probably from differnet sources. You must be really out of touch.

You need to rethink what your doing here, merely saying things and hoping no one will call you out on it is not how it's done round here - if you're making a claim, back it up, otherwise why should we pay any attention to what you say?

I have "googled it", I said as much earlier, can't find any stories though.... Even from good old RT..

Don't see why Americans feel the need to comment on this topic, your country is made entirely of land confiscated from Native peoples.

The evils of past people do not have anything to do with the evil being seen today. 2 wrongs do not make a right. What Russia is doing is evil plain and simple. If you support this crap either you are in on it or uninformed.

Please stop making Russia sound like it is a haven freedom............This is a flat out lie.

conquest is conquest whether by violent or non-violent means and whats wrong with the nazi comparison if the actions by russia are similar to german actions prior to ww2? annexation and population relocation is what it is.

To the OP. This is tragic.

Russia purported to support the minority Russians in Ukraine as an excuse for the invasion and annexation of the Crimea - "Crimea is ours" blurts out Putin at the Duma! What he is doing is completing what Stalin started – that is the total removal of the Crimean Tatars from their homelands, something which Stalin nearly completed through genocide a few decades ago. Got to love the Russians for their racism. No wonder every nation that borders them wants to deal with the EU rather than them!

Regards

Ukraine to leave Russia-led alliance

A witness told the BBC that armed men got out of two unmarked vehicles outside Simferopol and stormed the mapping facility, firing automatic weapons. A junior officer manning a tower was killed, along with a Crimean self-defense force member, the Interfax News Agency reported. Another Ukrainian officer was wounded in the neck.

The attackers detained other soldiers, who wore Russian uniforms, the Ukrainian News Agency reported, citing a defense ministry official. A pro-Russian news outlet created by Crimean authorities gave a different account, claiming snipers fired on the base and on self-defense forces checking a report of armed men at the facility. One self-defense brigade members was also killed, a police spokesman told Interfax.

Contrary to popular belief, just because Moscow says it occurred does not mean it occurred in the manner they claim. They seem to be having a problem keeping their lies / claims straight as they are now contradicting each other.

Secondly, we all remember the "letter" the Russian Ambassador to the UN produced stating it was an official request from the former Ukrainian President for military intervention?

The UN requested a copy of it - It never was provided and has since "disappeared".
Russia has claimed their embassy in Kiev was breached and seized - Absolutely nothing of the sort occurred, and again Russia has failed to provided the evidence to support their lie... err claims.

As for the claims about Russia and Crimea. Crimea was a part of the Russian Empire back in the day, for about 150-170 years. Prior to that, they were a part of the Ottoman Empire for about 300 years. Turkey has already notified Moscow that per an agreement signed between the Ottoman Empire and Russia, should Crimea ever become independent, it would revert back to Turkey's control. They have also stated they will protect the minority population in Crimea as well as put Russia on notice that if Russia moves forward with their "plans" outside of Crimea, that they will prohibit Russian / Crimean naval vessels from transiting the Bosphorus Straights.

It would effectively negate the entire reason Russia invade Ukraine. Nothing like a massive warm water naval base on one big lake.

We are finding that the "Native Americans" may have done the same to earlier migration peoples along the eastern seaboard.

Everyone does it, I see. Thats okay then?

And this has zero to do with Crimea BTW

In that the Russians are being chastised for overstepping their bounds (when compared to high crimes of USA)? Yeah, sadly it does.

You are right in one regard. This big "Crimean distraction" going on effectively steers the attention from Kiev and the dark horse the US state department backed there. Sooner or later we're going to have to go back there, you know. And what do we find? The US government put National Socialists into power (Nazis). What does that make us?

No wonder every nation that borders them wants to deal with the EU rather than them!

The strategy Putin / Russia is using makes no sense when compared to their stated goals / concerns. Everything they are doing is having the opposite affect - pushing countries closer to the EU / NATO.

The resolution against Russian actions - 13 in favor of resolution / Russia against / China abstained.

Putin is pissed about the sanctions. Maybe he should not have wise cracked about them. In addition to what's in place there are several more tiers the west has been talking about. The slow decline for Russian currency was based on Russia pumping about 10 billion into the system to artificially hold the rubles value on the international markets.

Russia's economy is still having issue and could be heavily impacted by more sanctions.

Moldova has been having talks with EU / NATO about Russian interference inside their country.

Is Obama week - Absolutely
Will sanctions work - possibly but im not holding my breath
Will military force be used - I think Putin would be incredibly naïve to think EU / NATO militaries wont be used should he continue down that road.

I think its one of the reasons he seems hesitant about going into south / east Ukraine.

What does that make us?

A scapegoat that dictators / anti west nations like to use when they cant control their own people. When in doubt, invoke the US and imply they are to blame for the worlds maladies. Its easier to keep the people in line when they think some other country is responsible for their problems.

Just like Russia did with Ukraine and the supposed ethnic Russian bashing.
Just like the Nazi's did...

What I find interesting is the lack of conversation about the Soviet Union. I find it hypocritical for Putin to give speeches on democracy and referendums when he was in the KGB. Did Russia not occupy the bulk of East bloc nations prior to the collapse of the Soviet Union. Russia sent in their military to clamp down on people protesting / wanting out of Russia occupation.

How quickly Putin wants to hide / rewrite history.

ETHNIC CLEANSING DEFINITION

I think its more along the lines of refusing to acknowledge that Putin has taken the very same actions they accuse the US of taking. Instead they attempt to divert to US history in hopes people will get distracted and forget what the topic is. Its been attempted in this thread already, as well as a few others.

It does not work when Putin obfuscates via state media and it wont work in these forums...
