Hey now epsilon... He is right....

I just don't feel like popping a pill to solve a problem.

Okay? I am searching for people who might've gone down this road themselves. More of a personal experience over a doctor's take on the matter. So while both of you are right you are also wrong.
If this doesn't make sense... What matters is that it makes perfect sense to me. and you helped me. And I thank you.

well maybe you need a psychiatrist then...

Just give it a try... chances are you'd get slapped around if you even challenged a novice if you have no exposure to boxing

Sounds like you just need the crap beat out of you a few times...

I understand mate.I guess some if not every person have gone throu that in a way or another.
I could give you an advice, as i am a hardcore gamer myself and have been for 25 years now (im 31)
Try not playing anything for some time.Instead, get something to do that is done outside of your house. It could be a part job, a hobby (it doesnt have to be "your" hobby) , maybe trying to do something with another person even if it is not your thing.
Excercise also helps because it releases endorphines which helps with mild cases of depression.
But try to forget your gamer identity for a while. It will make you even mor anxious and it will work against you.
imo, if you do that, in a few weeks you will be seating at home drinking something and will feel like turning on your PS or PC and playing a few games ^^

And btw, remember that you dont have to pop some pills , but it is important that you accept that you feel that way and try some new stuff to get off the floor mate.

Thanks for the input but... I think I would drive any psychiatrist insane after about 8 sessions.
Only because I hate pills... I hate diets. And I am actually 60 pounds lighter than last year.

Not to be a thorn in your side... but New Mexico..... I live in Albuquerque..... Yeah where breaking Bad was filmed. The highschool that the character Walter White worked at is actually Rio Rancho High School. I was there for 1 year. I could recognize that courtyard any day.

But back on subject....

There is almost nothing to do in New Mexico except.... drink.....

And that is another thing.... There isn't anything fun to do at bars. Not even gentlemen's clubs anymore. I used to live in Denver for 8 years as well.

Well then how about something creative?
What can you do? 3d modeling is fun and it has to do with videogames. You could get some tutorials online and before you know it you could be making props for others to use on their videogames, Unity has a great program for exchangin stuff like that.
Creative work always work for people that are suffering from different forms of depression or bypolar disorder. And i already mention it but , excersice also works.
But you have to "want" to get better and get back on track, and most people cant do it by themselves.

Also you said u dont want pills, but ...some forms of depressino are chemical unbalances in the brain and cant be cured unless that balance is restored. And that is done throu medication. Like it or not , is the only way.

Games have gotten 'samey'. Youngsters like them because they never played all the others before it because the 'graphics suck' and so on.

Ive stopped buying games as of about 5 years ago, till ive completed all the games i have on steam im simply not going to buy any others.

also you are a grumpy old man!

Have you ever thought about trying tabletop role playing games like D&D?

At least in those games there are no restrictions besides your own imagination.

I have been running into this issue as well myself - I am finding that it is the quality of the games that has just been declining, which results in an overall lower experience when gaming.

Take the Ace Combat franchise for example....they are up to what...the 8th or 9th iteration at the moment. I recently completed it and found it to be one of the least satisfying of all the Ace Combats I have ever played (I have played almost all of the others). The latest franchise has no "Ace" Pilots or Optional kill grabs that you need to get to unlock content, there is no Experimental Concept fighter or Experimental Weapons, and the new "Dogfight Mode" while it makes the game look more visually stimulating to a spectator, actually removes a lot of the difficulty from the game play.

I have been playing the new Thief also.....man....I'm still on the fence....it just doesn't have the allure captured by the original.

Lately I have just been working with a lot of MAME setups and playing oldskool retro arcade games. The thing with these games is that there is NO POINT IN TIME you can claim them to be "too easy"...the diffuculty becomes a challange and the excitement comes from trying to master something that seems so simple yet is quite complex. These games are the best for the Single Player gaming experience IMO.

For Multiplayer gaming I just play Magic the Gathering =)

Dude I could've written your thread word for word. I spend all my time on ATS, can't enjoy games anymore they feel like work
. I have Hitman : Absolution and never went beyond the second mission, I have tons of games currently installed and I can't stand playing any of them for more than an hour and even for that hour its boring. I keep telling myself that there's no purpose in having children or make projects as all I see is humanity going 120mph towards a brick wall. I can't live the "illusions" of life anymore. I have more trouble getting into movies, games, social relations. I'm 26... Good looking, smart, ... I took antidepressents for the past 6 months and I don't really notice any difference but I'm not suicidal or anything, just bored with everything. ATS is the only place where I'm able to let my mind wander reading far out there subjects I guess.

Dude...

The fact is that there comes a point in a persons life, when they either realise the potential that actually spending three hours out of the house, while not engaged in work related activities actually has, or they slump into tedium for the rest of their days. Twenty six years of age is far too young for that nonsense!

Care to try something out? It might get you your mojo back a little. When you get home from work, have a cup of tea or coffee, change out of your work stuff, and into some casual stuff, and go out for a few hours. Do not drive, walk. Find a bar that is not full of villains and cads, and socialise a little. Or go out doors just to get some air...go for a walk! When you just do not have it in you to laugh maniacally, while piling up victim sprites in a shooter, do not try to force yourself, just do something else for a bit. But do not sell off your gaming gear, or delete your games... There may come a time when you regret that.

Been gaming since colleco and atari.....im a pc gamer and its been my number one hobby for years....until lately.

Originality has been suppressed in the gaming industry because its too risky. Games are either too easy/safe or not finished. Me and one of my buddies almost gripe daily at how awful gaming has become and out of the last 20 games ive bought ive only played a few for more than 10 hours. I assume a dollar an hour of play is a worthy game. You are not alone....ive been finding other alternatives like reading and chess cause the gaming industry is just piss poorr at the moment.

Dude, its not just you, i started losing love for video game when i was in the early 20s.

The games are getting easier.... no need to work anymore, instant gratification, easier fights... more flashy useless toys...

This is what the new generation of gamers want, no more long term goals in game, no more practicing how to bet better(remember that in the old Street Fighter games?, i played Dhalsim and i trained with him for a long time)... now 1 button does the combo for you...

Game developers cater the games to the low attention spawn generation, everything will be quick and rewarding!

EVERYONES A WINNER!! (i hate liberal attitude in video games).

Yeah I lost my love for video games due to the advent of invasive technology and the addictive thrill of multiplayer. Aside from Fallout and Mass Effect of course.
But I think you are different like video games filled a void they can no longer fill and now you are out searching for something else to give you the same level of satisfaction in your life. But I think that is just a process and eventually the universe will provide.

I can agree that originality like Little Big Planet when it first came out is something that is no longer found in video games.

I actually found myself wanting to play the game "Race the sun." But more on that because a few others I need to reply to.

Here is how crazy I have become. Aside the fact that I actually wanted to play a mind game with a police officer that I discussed earlier in this thread. As well as faking my interest in getting a 5,000 dollar loan for some fake car I wanted with my current credit conditions... And turning it down when I was finally approved?

I have also found myself coming home from work, and taking a shower immediately. When I wake up I take a shower. After walking the 4 dogs I don't own I take a shower.

I also find myself changing my clothes every time I walk in the door after my shower. Sometimes when I go back to the place I was just at people think I am a new customer even though just hours before I was wearing something else.

One more thing I have tried co-relates to what someone else suggested... Ah yes this guy:

I have 4 sets of 7 Polyhedral Dies. I own just one character as a mini. I even painted him my favorite color. I like the role of a rogue, but who constantly steals. Want to know what is wrong with this type of character? Everyone is afraid that I am going to steal from them. Even though I just steal everything I can while in the game. I got mad at a DM once before because he didn't give me enough opportunities to steal from other NPC's in the game.

I guess everyone is a hero. Maybe that is it. Everyone is portrayed as the HERO.

Maybe it is time for us to play a f'n villain!

Seriously think about it. Infamous allowed you to either make people's life hell or help others. Why isn't there a game where you get to play the evil Mo fo? I have played "Holy Invasion of Privacy Badman, What did I do to deserve this?" (Later the title had to be renamed to "No Heroe's allowed."

I found myself enjoying the game of Magic 2014, 2013 and so on. But even that is becoming tedius. But I still at least play a hand or two a day.

I tried going to a few people back in 2010-2011 who wanted to get together to make a video game.

Their problem? They wanted a World of Warcraft killer app. I told him that it was not going to happen overnight. We were a crew of just 6 people sitting in a cafe talking about how to put this game together.

So i took it upon myself to create a video game start up fundraiser type deal. I called it Mag Racers. Short for Magnet Racers. Three people agreed that we needed a small game for development costs... And one of them liked, and shared the same concept for a game that they wanted to create. Magnet racers.....

It was a racer that didn't have turns but instead.... a series of jumps... Up and down and went in a complete circle for each track. I imagined the entire game and even drew out diagrams for it on how the game should play.

What did they do in return? They created a would be first person shooter racing game that never went anywhere.

Just F'n awesome right?

As for the anti-depressants? I tried them before and I wanted to kill my mother. I ended up in the hospital in the psyche ward and they deemed me unfit for medication.

What was going through my mind while on the medication? Apparently I made it my mission to kill my mom. I don't want to remember what happened because after they took the drugs out of me I went back to what they called "Normal."

Seriously I lost my passion for a lot of things.

I'm a gamer and right now I'm addicted to BF4 PS4 multi-player.
I've had all systems since Pong.
Metroid(NES) is my all-time fav game.
I love GTA, Elder Scrolls, Mario, Minecraft, Civilisation, BF4 and many other games.
I haven't slowed down one bit and I'm 42.
I cannot imagine how incredible the games on PS4 will be in a few years-I cannot wait!!!

This being said, I don't know what's wrong with you but you should see a doc immediately and tell him. Maybe it's depression?Maybe just take a break from games for a few months then come back to it and see how it feels. I don't buy into this "you're getting old" BS. You are NEVER to0o old to game!! NEVER!! NEEEEEEVER!!!!! I hate when somebody says that.
