Food security, economy to be hit by climate change, leaked IPCC draft report shows

Global warming will displace millions of people, trigger falling crop yields, stoke conflict and cost trillions of dollars in lost economic output, a United Nations report will warn. A draft of the report to be finalised later this month by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and obtained by The Independent in Britain, says “hundreds of millions of people” will be forced to move because of coastal flooding and land loss as sea levels rise. Food security will increasingly be threatened, with median crop yields to drop by as much as 2 per cent per decade for the rest of the century. Demand, though, is on course to rise 14 per cent per decade until 2050, the Independent cited the IPCC draft as saying. Read more: www.smh.com.au...# ixzz2wJ9BoZWv

It's time to end the normalcy bias, do something and prepare... move if you have to, for real. I just moved to the coast, love the ocean!!! Now I'm moving to higher elevation.... for serious!!!

Tsk Tsk, there is no need for fear mongering.

IF the reports findings come to pass, they will happen over a period of time, not in the blink of an eye.

It's this sort of sensationalism that turns people off and makes them stop listening.

How are you supposed to share stuff like this without it being doom porn? If people don't want to listen they won't listen. Does that mean it isn't worth sharing? I have a whole host of habits and skills that I try to hone throughout my day, and I appreciate the confirmation that I may be on the right track. I tell my daughter things of this nature because I want her to be prepared for whatever life the future has in store for her. The OP just confirms things I already believe to be true.

As far as I am concerned we may need to start going out into the streets and screaming this stuff out to everyone walking by. It would probably be a good idea if each one of us wrote a nice letter sharing this info with our senators as well.

A move now will better prepare either myself, or future generations stemming from my offspring.

Even if it takes 100 years for anything to really start having an impact, someone will be able to say... "my great great great grandfather moved here and created a solid foundation that allowed for me to be alive today"

First they cried "global WARMING"

Then the weather got colder..

Then they cried "global climate CHANGE!"

Well, now they covered all the planet's seasons.

It is time to start preparing for it. The majority of people can't just pack up and go on a moment's notice so it's a good idea to not move to any coast unless you can afford to lose the money invested as well as having enough money to have a back-up plan. It's also a good idea to figure out a way to grow your own food, even if the droughts in the US aren't due to climate change (not sure at what point we can say they are) they are happening and at some point all the farming subsidies in the world won't be able to mask how bad those droughts are.

Thing is, as of yet... there's no way to know where to go or where to farm.

You're seriously still caught up on the "warming" thing?!

Seriously... get over it. Is there not enough proof that throughout Earth's history there have been massive changes of climate? Is it really all that difficult to conceive the notion that maybe this is happening at a time when humans adopted the ability to actually record eyewitness accounts?

I bet if there was somewhere, scribbled in a cave... an account from a witness of the last ice age, people would be more willing to believe the claims of today.

If we called it the organised consumption and destruction of the life giving ecosystem the support all life on the planet. Would you take it a little seriously then?

Making jokes and trying to belittle the OP's message will do nothing but amplify the problem. A better approach might be to focus on the issue a little bit and start putting your neighbours in check.
