Yeah.. I have that same off feeling. It could turn into little more than we see...or we could wake up to news of movement in division strength, over the Russian borders in at least one compass direction.

Russia is just not predictable beyond doing whatever is in Russia's own best interests.

Reported on Yahoo News:

SIMFEROPOL, Ukraine (AP) — Russian forces backed by helicopter gunships and armored vehicles Saturday took control of a village near the border with Crimea on the eve of a referendum on whether the region should seek annexation by Moscow, Ukrainian officials said.

The forces involved in the gas terminal seem a little light to me.
I wonder if the rumored, hacked email anonymous claims to have are true and if this is part of it?

Russian forces are still occupying Arbatskaya Strelka, Ukraine. So it looks like the Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release was just propaganda and they did not repel any attack. They really do need to show some fight and determination otherwise Russia will continue to walk over them as they are doing now.

Assuming this information is legit. it is doubtful that the target of this incursion is the gas terminals. Most of the fuel stocks are depleted at the Kherson refineries, and have been cut off from crude supplies since January. Could be forward recon, but to land people in a daylight operation in a age when everyone has a camera and communications are still operating reeks of a diversionary tactic. Either they want to keep the Ukrainian forces running from place to place to deplete their fuel supplies for their diesel guzzling machinery, or they are getting them to cluster in a tactically disadvantageous area for Ukrainian defence.

The fog of war.

KIEV, Ukraine — Scores of Russian troops landed by helicopter and seized a gas plant just beyond the regional border of Crimea on Saturday, the Ukrainian government said. The action was Russia’s most provocative since its forces took over Crimea two weeks ago.

The latest troop advance came one day before Crimea was set to vote on whether to secede from Ukraine, and it was testing Ukrainian leaders’ resolve to engage Russia’s much more powerful military if it moved beyond Crimea.

By late afternoon, Ukrainian troops were stationed outside the gas plant, which is on a slender sand bar to the east of the Crimean Peninsula, according to Unian, a Ukrainian news service, which quoted the local police. The news agency did not say if shots were fired.

The Ukrainian foreign ministry issued a statement saying that the nation reserved the right to use all necessary measures to stop what it called a “military invasion by Russia.”

The truth will be more evasive now.

Ukraine's military scrambled aircraft and paratroops to confront Russian troops landing on a remote spit of land between Crimea and the mainland, defence officials said and the foreign ministry demanded their immediate withdrawal.
The border guard service said Ukrainian forces had taken up defensive positions on Arbatskaya Strelka, running parallel to the east of Crimea, now controlled by Russian forces. It said about 60 Russian troops had landed on the strip and begun digging in, assisted by three armoured personnel carriers.

Six Russian helicopters arrived with 60 more servicemen about two hours later outside the village of Strelkovoye. The border guard service said talks between the two sides established that the Russian servicemen were "guarding against possible terrorist acts" against a gas pumping station.

"At this time, there is no threat of confrontation," the Ukrainian border guard service said.

Crimea's new pro-Russian government said the region's "self-defence forces" had prevented an attempt to disable the station, which it said had stopped supplying gas to hospitals and residential buildings earlier in the day.

In a statement quoted by Russia's Itar-Tass news agency, it said people "in camouflage" had mined the site and fled.

If they shoot they crush every possibility for a diplomatic solution. Do you want to be the one who set Europe on fire?

It's clear Russia isn't looking for a diplomatic solution when they invaded Ukraine and have continuously refuse to remove themselves from Crimea and respect international law

Russia won't get far in Europe and they know that... It's time to step up the pressure

Putin has to be the aggressor, if that is what he wants. Everybody with some common sense should do everything they can to avoid it.
The waiting is the worst part, but as long as no one shoots, there is still some hope left to find a solution in a more civilized way.

For the sake of humanity, nobody should hope Ukraine use force. I don't agree with what Putin is doing. But to start a conflict, in which the world has never seen before, Madness.
Lets look at Americans invasion of Iraq. That was way worse. Killing, bombing. depleted Uranium and Fallujah ring any bells.
What if Russia decided to grow some, as you say about Ukraine. WW3 would of already happened.

If your friend is having a row with his neighbour because he's building his fence over your friends property/garden, and the neighbour grips him up by the neck when confronted about his actions

You don't just sit and watch over the wall or walk away because of fear of being hit

You ask him to stop and reason with him to let go and move along firstly... (that clearly hasn't worked)

You then step in and pull him off... (That hasn't happened)

That needs to happen NOW!!!

When a full force NATO starts moving there assets to protect Ukraine, watch Russia do nothing and start complying

Nothing else will persuade that ignorant fool putler IMO

Thanks to Mr. Wonderful all chances of pushing Russia out of Ukraine are exactly nil at this point. Putin is going to continue to go piece by piece until he splits Ukraine right down the middle.

If Mr. Wonderful would have parked an aircraft carrier off the coast and the Ukrainians would have mobilized and protected the boarder into Crimea they could have pushed the Russians back into Russia.

Now it's just too late. If they move to enact sanctions it's just going to make everything go more quickly.

I keep telling you people, get on with current events, the friend in this particular case is russia, and the neighbor trying to set the fence is NATO. Man really wish you would pay attention to current events. Why are you posting if you are not up to the basics?
