Proving once again that Republicans only believe in the free market when it benefits them, Chris Christie blocked the sale of Tesla cars because they are sold directly to consumers.

Then Christie came back to New Jersey and signed off on a cold, hard government regulation that blocks Tesla from selling its cars in the state. The rule change prohibits automakers from selling directly to consumers, as Tesla does. Instead, it requires them to go through franchised, third-party dealerships, as the big, traditional car companies do. In other words, it requires that the middle-men get their cut. The Christie Administration made the move unilaterally, via the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. It was urged on by lobbyists for the state’s existing car dealerships, which fear the competition. The upshot is that Tesla will be forced to stop selling cars at its two existing dealerships in the state, and drop its plans to build more. It’s unclear what will happen to the employees of those dealerships.

Sou rce

The free market capitalism and deregulation touted out by republicans is a sham and this is a prime example. The future of this country looks bleak if every time an innovator goes against the status quo they are blocked, well banned from entire markets.

Nice! Call em out on this crap wherever it shows up.

There is nothing worse than hypocrisy from those who would erroneously associate themselves with freedom.

What can we expect from pigs but grunts? We don't have a free market, we don't have democracy, we don't even have a republic. We have oligarchies and cronyism.

If this is true then its the protection of the oil beneficiaries that have wacked this puppet's chain. The oil industry works naturally through the laws, they organised their puppets to put the laws in place purely to protect their interests against the needs of the public.

Is this man so safe that he can risk the anger of the public at being dictated to by the mucky oil oligarchs and dinosaurs. We all want to help our environment. Most of us want rid of the oil brigade who have run things with their mucky commodity for too long.
Cars using oil based products will become a thing of the past and the sooner, the better, especially with schools in built-up areas and their emissions flowing directly through the windows of our kids classrooms and playgrounds. these emissions must ultimately have an effect on lung conditions for all the public.

No one needs oil pollution, no oceans need it and the land in countries where either pipelines have broken or careless management has left the soil oil sodden needs this type of pollution.

A car one can charge up in the garage or somewhere safe will be a blessing and the new Tesla looks good from the pictures etc.
I suspect those than can will flock to have one for a number of reasons. They may also hold their 2nd-hand value better, who knows?

The motor industry has to face change from gas guzzlers to modern cleaner cars and the sooner the better for everyone.
We know the technology is in existence and still being developed to make batteries to suit this industry so change is inevitable.

The power industry will be the next that has to face the extra demand for electricity and our scientists and innovative inventers should be concentrating on something, especially in the UK where government is deliberately ignoring this - and that is non-polluting and FREE, wave power through our tides.

Davis said "...capitalism doesn't work!..."
my Grandfather said" How do you know, its never been tried!"

My grandfather later justified the incident by saying...it had to be said

Well I think someone has told you fairy tales. I will explain something.
This Chris guy, doesn't exist to me in my reality.
I have had everything stripped away from me so there is nothing to leverage against me.
My free will to be an ignorant slave was removed against my free will.
All bets are off as far as any earth law is concerned.
Like I said my heart cant be stopped and I have zero to lose.
I am....the ultimate gamer

Why are you crying about the progressives? And saying that progressives control both parties just shows you know nothing about either party. If Progressives controlled the Republicans then they wouldn't have cut veterans aid and benefits.

Proving once again that Republicans only believe in the free market when it benefits them

Never heard of the 'Affordable' Care At eh ?

Sorry I missed the part where anyone has the 'right' to take the 'moral' high ground here.

And then there is 70 years of banning things that go 'boom' by the flip side of that coin.

Christie is a RINO.

Anyways.

The free market capitalism and deregulation touted out by republicans is a sham and this is a prime example.

I missed the free market part especially after the last 6 years, and the past 30 years.

Where the people who cry about Republicans forced people to buy auto insurance, and they just forced them to buy health insurance.

I ask again where is the GD moral high ground ?

What a piece of sh*t, I can't believe anyone still likes him. That is outrageous. Tesla's are awesome cars. He is obviously protecting friends of his in business because New Jersey has a lot of progressive people with money who would probably be interested in buying a Tesla.

If the media induced image of Christie is even close to being on target, that of an overbearing bully with a revenge-minded mean streak, then this really should come as no surprise. I don't really know all the specifics, but I would surmise that since that bridge scandal, it is possible that Christie has realized that he is at the zenith of his political career, and the only place to go is the private sector once his term is up. There is a chance he could end up being a presidential cabinet member in the future, but who knows? This really could be a tactical decision to bolster Christie's career choices in the future. I do wonder how many other states have similar laws though, and if this is an isolated example or not.

Hmm...I believe NJ exempts sales tax for Teslas. Was thinking of buying one and read that somewhere. Maybe that would be the reason?
