Send a white guy to Camden, NJ to buy pharmaceuticals and see what his life expectancy is...about 30 seconds after he rolls down his window.

Stupid poll/study!

I live in a pretty purple state, Washington. Not too red, not too blue. Don't know what our life expectancy is, but it's likely pretty high. A nice mix of red and blue ideas, and it seems to work well.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Politics have squat to do with it, in my humble opinion.

(Source)

The factors on this cross geographic and anthropological lines, and I wouldn't know that but for the fact I've had to briefly study this very phenomenon of numbers in both courses.

Two things account most for the disparity in health. The average income/poverty rate for dietary and lifestyle options, and the availability of affordable, quality healthcare, especially in rural and 'back country' areas.

Fairfax, Virginia is also an interesting one for hitting the top. Yeah.. I'm sure they did hit the top, above even the best nations. lol... Uncle Sugar takes real real good care of his own, when he cares to. A map and check of employers in the area show why that county is healthy as a poster.

LOL

You forgot to list the numbers of Democrats and Republicans.

"Red" states are obviously plagued with "Blue" traditions and problems.

what a dumb thread...

Red States consume more fried food, the diet differences are the reason.

It has nothing to do with politics.

nah; the blue states have a pride or appriciation in many ways for being part of the USA. by "Murrika" I'm referencing the jingonistic right-wing, which is probably a minority in most red-states, albiet a really loud minority. (I wish there was a left-wing equivelent, like there was ~100 years ago [anarchists, Wobblies, etc.] to provide some balance.)

Open your eyes....its there if you want to find it. This thread is your hint....pit "red" vs. "blue"....whatever that means. Posts like this keep the division of party alive and ticking and posters like yourself perpetuate it.

Anti enviromental laws like Alaska and Texas also West virginia

It seems each of these states suffer the same disasters.

I suspect that much of the reason for the disparity has more to due with population density than anything else. The 'red' states have higher percentages of their populations living in rural areas, and the inevitable result of that is going to be longer response times for medical services, especially emergency care.

Its also interesting to look up how those counties at the bottom vote. Its certainly not all 'red'; in fact, all of those counties in Mississippi are heavily Democrat. So is Macon County, Alabama. But again, I don't think that's the reason for it. Its just ironic given the rather dubious connection the article is trying to make.

Yes, I agree. California and NY are wonderful. Please stay there. Red States are indeed hazardous to your health. If you move to one you will die.

Shouldn't this thread be in the political mud-pit forum? After all it's just an excuse (albeit a flimsy one) to say "HAHA! Republicans are less healthy than Democrats!"

Why do we care about this division to begin with?
