Hey ATS,

Okay, so I just discovered about a year ago that my wife has no knowledge of Star Wars. I know it doesn't make any sense what so ever!!!!
I am going to introduce her to the epic film, but I don't know which way to show her. So that brings me here to enlist the voices and opinions of my great comrades of ATS.

How should I present the film to her.
The way that most of us saw it originally. 4,5,6-1,2,3

Or the other way
1,2,3,4,5,6,

When you watch them how they were released it has this sort of weird element to it.
Thank you guys, Peace and Many blessings.

4,5,6,1,2,3 is the intended viewing.....i think he wanted to have the dark dread in the first three......that we knew the future but not how we get to it......so we know bad is coming but not the details. It adds that element that you wouldn't have by just watching the downfall.....as well, you miss all the 'hints' he puts in.

Does she even watch sic fi? If not… good luck.

Let her watch 4 (without you hanging over her) and see what she thinks after.

By the way, there are no sounds in space.

4 5 6 1 2 3, definitely. The new ones are a bit cheesy (I still love them), to a girl it may be a bit uninteresting. However the older ones have character and should (hopefully) draw her in more

There are articles on this on the net. google on the right order to watch star wars.

Personally I think that you should do.

ep 4 - establish luke and crew
ep 5 - the big reveal is vader is lukes dad
ep 2 - you get to see him going over to the dark side
ep 3 - you get to see how he became vader
ep 6 - and finally you get to see vaders redemption

you can watch 1 if you want. but it doesn't really fit in with the others.

Thank you guys for all of the positive feedback. She's not into sci-fi but I know she would be interested. I agree with you guys.

There are no sounds in space, how did we get that eerie, spooky recording of saturns rings ( I think that was it).

Regardless of the fact that 1,2,and 3 are inferior movies (though I thought 3 may have been the best of the series), you have to start with 4,5,6. Going from the effect heavy cinematography in the newer to the cheesy effect in the older ones is a tough watch.

Id say go in the order of release too.

It may not "make sense" so much jumping back and forth, but thats how 99% of the planet saw it so, if you like to talk about films with your friends, watch the same way as they almost certainly did.

I beg to differ!

The Empire Strikes Back is by no means an inferior movie!

The direction is way superior and Princess Leia is shown to be a real woman. The darkness that overshadows all the heros lends depth to the entire series.

Watch them in their historical, intended viewing order. Your wife will be utterly fascinated by the end of the The Empire Strikes Back!

you misunderstood what I said. Try reading it again.

I said 1,2 and 3 (the newer ones) were inferior.

If I may speak for my distinguished colleague, 2 meaning Clones, and not Empire.

As a woman, show her 4, 5, 6 and then the rest are optional.

I'd say that 3 had some potential to be good except that time management was way off. The only way to tell that Anakin's final fall takes place over months instead of the seeming days is Padme's poorly handled pregnancy which we can't really see progressing because they hide it. Otherwise, it seems like Anakin just sort of goes bad overnight which seems way wrong.

She didn't know Star Wars, and still you married her??? Wow. She must be a great woman then. lol

The original trilogy first of course, and try to find SW A New Hope Revisited by Adywan. In it, Han shoots first.

The first movie only works on 10 year-olds. Past a certain age, whatever small useful bits from Joseph Campbell that are in that movie become inaccessible.

You're right... The Empire Strikes Back is Episode V... isn't it?

Also, they were always presented with Roman numerals; this was appropriate to the "Empire" themes.

Let's refer to the titles for easy reference. This is the original viewing order:

Films

IV: A New Hope
V: The Empire Strikes Back
VI: Return of the Jedi
I: The Phantom Menace
II: Attack of the Clones
III: Revenge of the Sith
The Clone Wars (to be released)

Just watch the original trilogy 4,5,6

But here is another Q: What version of the original trilogy to watch?

Id say the original unaltered trilogy

1,2,3 are optional.. 3 was the better of the 3 Toy movies he made.

Good luck on the unaltered ones. We lucked into a set from my folks. But I agree that they are the ones to see if you can. When he started "improving" them, they started getting annoying.
