US has business in Ukraine, the treaty they signed in 1994 with Ukraine in exchange for Ukraine getting rid of all their nukes, one of the largest nuclear arsenals at that time. If war happened, by treaty US should defend Ukraine.

If war happened, then there is not much choice due to the treaty. Not helping Ukraine would lead to US losing all their reputation. This would basically lose the point of NATO... Or any other treaty US has ever signed.

I personally agree with MrSpad on the current situation. There is too much to lose for Russia, if they started an actual war.

Aw Crap!
Did we really do that?
Maybe it was the best move at the time.

Pretty flaky thing to do in retrospect but definitely a valid point in favor of US involvement.

I think the US has already lost any good reputation it once had but that's not why it should be done anyway.

A treaty with specific implications of defense should be honored at least until Ukraine joins the EU which is probably what the EU is counting on.

I guess Russia would rather deal with it when it's just the US interfering than let Ukraine join the EU. Then the EU would have to step up as well.

Given that the ultra nationalists that currently control Ukraine have threatened to revive Ukraines nuclear weapons program...that treaty could become a moot point. 3-6 months according to them. But really ask yourself...what type of people are controlling the Ukraine right now? Were you aware that the entire Ukranian Navy just quit and have sided with the Russians? I don't think they want the US's help....this is why Yankovich, who was DEMOCRATICALLY elected by the way....had to go. The US is funding these ultra nationalists in a bid to overthrow yet another government so they can install their own puppet.

Not helping Ukraine would lead to US losing all their reputation.

In case you haven't noticed the US has no reputation outside of the US. That train left the station 12 years ago when it decided International Law and the Geneva Conventions of war applied to everybody BUT them.

There is too much to lose for Russia, if they started an actual war.

The US stands to lose no less than the Russians....thats the thing about war...once the shooting starts all bets are off. Russia isn't Iraq or Afghanistan and you would do well to keep that in mind. They won't go down without a horrific fight...just ask the Germans. The loss of life would be horrific, in terms of civilian lives and could potentially lead to an all out war. NOBODY wins in that scenario....there would only be varrying degrees of losing.

If America had voted for McCain or Romney, you would already be involved in military action in Syria and now probably Russia. Maybe having a weak leader is a good thing for Americans who don't want more wars? I don't know, I get the idea some like wars on this site. Almost like they enjoy the latest Hollywood blockbuster.

The US and the West is not going to do jack squat for Ukraine.

The US has a feckless Potus in the truest sense.

Talks tough, but is nothing but a 'paper tiger'.

The only people who are 'doomed' are Ukrainians.

You could say weak or you could say being careful. I'm NOT sure everything on the world stage Obama has done is weak or has been seen as weak. On the other hand, would you want someone say, stronger or at least with stronger rhetoric stirring things up more. I'm not sure we're doomed.

Obama has no real power. He is going to do what ever the military/industrial complex tells him to do. He is a neocon puppet just likie Bush.

And the sooner people realize this, the better.
