I agree with him. He makes perfect sense.

I can't say that I agree or disagree with him. After all he is a politician.

But what I can hear how he speaks (behind the translator, you can still hear Putin), he sounds confident. Not all the Um's, and Uh's that many Western leaders do, while they try to spin their spiel.

Why would Russia spend $50 billion to show a new Russia at the Olympics and then go and do this? It does not make much sense to me.

You spend currency to build political capital then spend political capital to get things you want like Crimea or Obamacare. Even easier when the opposing nations in this grand sovereign state tug-o-war are incapable of both hindsight and foresight.

As for why spend $50B, the more you're liked the more you can get away with. Once you spend the political capital the less you're liked and the less you get away with like Obama and Syria. Had Obama had more political capital or Putin less on the global stage it would have ended differently.
