Following the updates on the explosions it's unclear but reports coming in some saying fireworks.

Regarding the explosion

The Russians seized weapons in the Ukrainian part of Belbek, used stun grenades

"Today, the Russians stormed the guard, throwing stun grenades. Initially told to hand over weapons. Karaul refused. Began throwing stun grenades in the evening. We are not answered because there is no order from above," - he added.

Thanks for the graphic. Yeah that's an occupational force if I ever did see one. Looks like Russia used the turmoil as an advantage to swiftly occupy the Crimean when Ukraine was unorganized and, for lack of a better term, their pants down.

That's a lot of equipment for "peacekeeping!"

I have little doubt that there are groups in place, there specifically to try and light the fuse for war.

The people look pretty calm under the circumstances, if there were loud explosions.

Just a snippet of information BBC news has added to update it's new feed but nothing that confirms the explosions yet.

Loud bangs
A loud bang was heard about 23:10 local time (21:10 GMT), following by a smaller blast, BBC reporters in Simferopol say.

A city resident blogged about hearing an explosion come from the direction of Elevatornaya Street, where an electronic combat military unit is based.


There are also unconfirmed reports, on social media, that Russian forces are trying to take over another Ukrainian military base, this time at Sevastopol's military airport, Belbek.

Several Ukrainian army bases were surrounded by Russian troops earlier on Sunday but there were no reports of clashes despite the refusal of Ukrainian soldiers to open their gates.

Ukraine has ordered a full military mobilisation in response to Russia's build-up of its forces on the Crimean peninsula. Interim Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk warned the country was "on the brink of disaster".

The UK has joined the US, France and Canada in suspending preparations for a summit of the G8 in Russia in June.

'Unconfirmed'. Actually a lot of people on Twitter are reporting it to be fireworks so it's anyones guess at this present momnet! I'm keeping relevant information up to date on this thread like the rest.

Lets hope this is a relevant bit of information. Let see what unfolds. If they're heading in to Crimea my gut tells me they're going in to regain.
