Well, yet Putin did what Obama didn't with Lybia... he consulted the government's legislative assembly on having greenlight for military action.

That is a fair point that isn't lost on me.

Putin is being more 'proper' in the approach to war "by the numbers" than we are. He's acting like a President in a democracy and we act like a quasi-dictatorship with a non-functional legislature.

Oh...up is down and down is up. Better watch bombing in this war...the bombs might fall back up into the planes at this rate. Yikes!

Also not "All news channels calling this a Declaration of War. "... It's the Ukrainian Pravda, and another pro-West Ukrainian outlet.

Looks like they are crying wolf.

Relax... this may only be a "kinetic action" on behalf of Russia!

Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin said that consent to the use of military Russia in the Crimea does not mean that this right will be implemented quickly. "The agreement that got our president literally does not mean that this right is implemented rapidly," - said Karasin. A senior diplomat was appointed president of his special representative in the Federation Council when considering the use of Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine.

The United States considers the question of the responsibility of the possible use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine. This was said in a statement the White House distributed on March 1, "Interfax-Ukraine". "We are closely watching the situation, consult with our partners and considering the possible liability (Russia), which said yesterday the U.S. president," - said in a statement. Since the administration of U.S. President reacted to the request of the President of the Council of the Federation to consider the use of force of the territory of Ukraine. As you know, the Federation Council unanimously adopted a resolution that the President of the Russian Federation has agreed to the use of armed forces on the territory of Ukraine to the normalization of the socio-political situation in the country.

Russia is simply putting in place the legal framework under which military action can be sanctioned efficiently as possible if the need rises. It also serves as a stark warning that if Ukrainian military forces attempted to secure positions in the Crimea it would risk facing perfectly legal retaliation from a military near infinitely more capable.

I'm sick of this crap.

If grown adults want to kill each other.

Then have at it!

Leave the kids out of it is all I ask from all sides involved.

I think that is the problem. Putin isn't poking anyone and we've been game playing so many years in the West, we forget what it looks like when nations turn deadly serious for one line too many having been crossed.

We just kicked Putin in the balls to make his eyes cross ....and now he's recovered and PISSED OFF. Who can blame him either....

Would we have appreciated China not simply building a port to break records in North America down in Mexico, but openly destabilizing their nation (Not much work required there, I admit) then all but openly taking Mexico City as a client state out from under us?

Errr.... Not in this life....not even with that wimp, Obama. No way in this world would the US stand by for that ..and Ukraine is worse for Putin. Laredo isn't 300 miles from downtown Washington D.C.. Moscow is less than 300 miles from the Ukrainian land border. He can SEE the "front lines" from his figurative window ..and we wonder why he isn't playing, but just acting and doing? He actually has the right, in this case. It's we who are totally outside our comfort zone, IMO.

The extreme right wing in Ukraine gets involved

The central headquarters of Sector Right called on all its units an urgent mobilization and armament. This is stated in Claim sector. "Being aware of all the dangers that are looming over the Ukrainian statehood, Central Headquarters Right Gaza ordered all its units an urgent mobilization and armament, and depending on the specific situation in the region as much as possible to coordinate with the Armed Forces, the Security Service and Interior Ministry", - stated in the application . "We remind all citizens of Ukraine regardless of nationality (including Russians) that our struggle is anti-imperial, not Russophobe. Russian empire will be destroyed. Urge Resistance Movement Caucasus and all liberation movements in Russia to step up their activities," - the statement says.

I just saw this on CNN. It's real, and major US news outlets are reporting that Russia approved usage of military force inside the Ukraine. It's true.

Like in most of these type of hair-trigger situations, it takes one inexperienced nervous civilian or soldier to shoot someone (either at another countries armed forces, or at a local protest, etc) to start a bigger snowball rolling. So I hope all parties involved are doing the appropriate and usual behind-the-scenes things to give each side something so both fairness and a feeling of "we won this and that" to cool down the situation. That one phone call from the idiot U.S. woman, taped and happily leaked, puts a public face on this entire episode which was likely meant to remain private.

Any consider semi stcking a Ukraine live update link thread to collate various updated sources editing as they change on the first post, no particular topic but would act as a handy "cloud" server for timelines and such.
