I seriously doubt US troops will be actively fighting for Ukraine. Ukraine is not a member of NATO and that is their problem. The US needs to back away until an actual NATO member like Poland is under attack. Forget the Budapest Memorandum, that was stupid and ill advised.

We have to uphold the 1994 treaty we signed. If we don't then our allies would have no faith to continue further disarmament, and no faith in our word.

We have no infrastructure in place to just start exporting gas there and it'll take 6 to 10 years to develop one.

Actually 18 months according to a report to congress i read to meet Europe's needs it would be in place by the end of 2015. But keep in mind in the mean time more and more gas would be exported. We already export gas just not in the quantities that they would need it requires expanding facilities. This will surprize alot of people but the U.S. could surpass Russia this year as the world's largest natural gas producer and by next year Saudi Arabia as the biggest oil producer. were clearly in second in both categories.

Well the treaty guaranteed protection against nuclear weapons It wasnt a protection against any threat but i do see your point. Why should a country be willing to give up nukes if no one will help them in trouble.

Thank you ever so kindly for finally bringing up what this is actually about, the currency wars!! All of this discussion throughout this entire thread has missed this point, and honestly when you get down to it, America has been systematically destroyed from withing for over 100 years now! The federal reserve has done exactly what it was meant to do, take the leader of the free world and crash and burn it into itself! Sadly it is the people who suffer and will continue to, what can you do there is alot of Karma that needs to be cleansed, that is the nature of the game we chose to play when we incranated into this life. After the upheaval or should I say through the upheaval we will be forced to come together and see beyond the differences that the contolling powers have used to keep us divided. Gonna be an interesting year!

In the United States, one can legally challenge an election without rioting in the streets and police murdering protesters. I am not the one talking smack, you are. Crimea will be holding an (unconstitutional) referendum in a week. At that point. we will know what the people of the region want. Until then, Crimea is being controlled from Moscow. Putin had better pray that the election goes his way. He stands to lose the assets he was trying to "protect."

What do you think will happen when Crimea joins Russia?
Countries will start to unrecognize Russian sovereignty for that?
I don't think so...

Actually, that is pretty much what will happen. Russia will be booted out of the G8, Europe will get its energy from America, countries will demand that Russian companies pay for goods in gold, and so forth.

Hypocrite.... Then the current Ukrainian government should have waited for yanukovych to be voted out instead of rioting in the streets and chasing him out of the country, an action that you have defend to the death here on these threads.

Is it possible we can all just stick with live updates? All this bickering back and forth is confusing the hell out of things. It's not like this is over yet and it probably won't be for a while. It's just a simple request, I doubt the request will be honored but it's worth a shot.

I think it's time a separate thread be made about who is to blame etc by someone who has strong opinions on this matter, and it should be allowed to go in both directions. I just wish it wasn't in this thread!

The duly elected Parliament has voted him out. Even if he hadn't fired on the protesters, that would have happened eventually. Yanukovych betrayed his country and sold himself to the Russians.
