But Mr Lavrov : Russia cannot order "self-defence" forces in Crimea back to bases because they are not Russian forces - insisting that Russia cannot issue orders to "self-defence groups" formed by locals in Crimea.

Soo if these "Self Defense forces" attack Eastern Ukraine, please don't blame Russia... they are innocent

I fear, this war is far from over, actually its a very covert one.
edit on 5/3/14 by asen_y2k because: (no reason given)

Couldn't it be that there wont be a war at Putin is doing exactly what he says?
Taking control of his bases in Crimea and then waiting for Kiev to get its act together?
It makes no sense for Putin to try and take the Ukraine when the entire world is not going to allow it.
Neither want to risk a war, Crimea is practically Russian anyway.

I love your updates and your contributing a lot to this thread, but there has been 0 indication that Putin intends of kidnapping Ukraine on some hell bent invasion plan.

Its all just BS western BS

You must be absolutely clueless if you can't see Russia is inflaming and influencing the very people it claims it is there to illegally protect

When these planted people make enough noise and Ukraine cracks down, it gives Moscow a BS excuse it created a reason to intervene illegal further in other countries foreign affairs and political integrity and also further violets UN laws

It's shocking how you just totally miss the obvious to try lend credit to a desperate rat heaving like a Nazi, it's people like you who will land the world into a conflict so I hope you're out and about training and getting ready for it

what noise are they making?
have they not been extremely restrained?

yesterday people were going on about how Russia was about to invade and armies were massing on the border..
now .. nothing?

Its all BS. There is logic to what Putin is doing.
Ukraine collapsed, Crimea was left vulnerable. Russia has stepped in, secured its navy and military bases and hasnt stepped a foot further.

just you watch..

Look Russia is saying they have deployed their troops on Ukrainian soil is a complete lie!

They are saying it's a non Russian invasion.

First Russia says it's troops are in crimea to protect Russian Speakers and Russian Citizens then they change a complete different
stance and say they never deployed troops in crimea and those who are in Crimea are still based at the black sea bases in Crimea.

I'm sorry but this soes not pull the wool over my eyes.

They have invaded before Obama's loose warning to them.

---

technically, he's never said his ''troops'' are in crimea, he has always said its local security forces. (yes its a load of crap and im sure they take orders from moscow)

but he hasnt changed the story, he's always said this.

What are you on about?

It's quite simple...look..Russia is saying that they have not brought 'invasion' troops into Ukraine, they are honestly saying, what the world and his dog has known for generations that Russia has, and has pretty much always had a force of regular Russian soldiers in Crimea, mostly stationed around the Black Sea port.

These number around 16,000 soldiers, but the terms of their LONG standing agreement with Ukraine, legally entitles Russia to keep a permanent number of up to 25,000 regular Russian soldiers in Ukraine, again, mostly stationed in and around the Black Sea port.

It's a legal agreement, and it costs Russia around $100 Million a year for the right to do it.

Putin is responding to false media claims and hysterics about 'inavsion troops', not historic agreements on Russian soldiers that the world knows all about (but 'curiosly' they generally fail to mention or clarify on the evening news) being there legally.

There are also around 1.2 MILLION ethnic Russians living in the Crimea region alone..which is around 60% of the total population there.

A large number (not the majority of those 1.2 million though) of the men of fighting age, have recently joined Crimean militias, and are digging in creating fox holes and defenses against percieved attack from far-right wing Ukrainians from other areas.

These are the people you see on the evening news, alongside Crimean special Police personnel, patrolling the roads in and out of Crimea stopping and performing security checks on vehicles and generally preparing for whatever crap they think may come their way from the North and West Ukraine.

They don't want Russian rule, Russia has publicly stated they don't want that either.

What they both DO want though, is to prevent potential attacks from the radical Ukrainians who have essentially banned being ethnic Russian!

The interim government quickly banned Russian language, Russian literature and writing, and lifted bans on fascist symbology and insignias (their versions of the swastika and so on) pretty much as their first order of business.

This naturally makes ethnic Russians very nervous about their safety, and they have requested protection from the Russian Federation, to make available the Russian soldiers based perfectly legally in Crimea (the Black Sea port soldiers), in addition to the ethnic Russians living in Crimea and serving in the Crimean militias...not to invade anywhere or anyone, but to act as a kind of deterent to right wing Ukrainians who may wish to bring chaos to Crimea...which is what we see on our TV screens.

There's NO invasion, NO Russian plans to take control of Ukraine or Crimea...there ARE plans to use the legal forces within Crimea and Ukraine to keep the peace and prevent anarchy and chaos.

It's quite simple really.

BREAKING NEWS:Unarmed monitors from 18 countries in Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe to be sent to Ukraine

BBC Ticker

I also saw this while I was catching up on the BBC ticker this morning, but what I don't understand is that it was reported yesterday that these folks had already arrived and were on their way to Crimea at the invitation of Ukraine. I posted it back on page 105 here (understandably it got lost in amongst the WonderBoi nonsense)

I wonder why we are getting rehashed 'news'. This does nothing but confuse further an already twisted up info stream. (That was not directed towards you at all, but towards our wonderful media.)

Doesn't it just.

Hopefully, once the chaos and hysteria has died down in Ukraine and a semblance of normality returns..the one good thing that will come out of this will be a new appriciation for the need to bring our media service under a very large magnifying glass.

It is believed those troops that are controlling borders, taking over a parliamentary building, airports, Ukrainian military bases, airspace, access routes in Crimea are Russian troops. Whether their has been an agreement it does not state they can go in to Crimea which is Ukrainian autonomous Repulic 'Including' those based in ukraine at Russian bases to start taking control of the countries security without an agreement from the Ukrainian government.

Telling Ukrainian troops to surrender Crimea which is not legally an independent state.

If Russian troops were defending their assests in Crimea then they wouldn't be taking over a parliamentary building, airports, Ukrainian military bases, airspace, access routes in Crimea.

They would be defending their bases

Under the title “In Kiev, an Israeli army vet led a street-fighting unit”, the Jewish News Agency JTA confirms that soldiers from the IDF were involved in the EuroMaidan protest movement under the direct command of the Neo-Nazi Svoboda Party.

The leader of the “Blue Helmets of Maidan” is Delta “the nom de guerre of the commander of a Jewish-led militia force that participated in the Ukrainian revolution”. Delta is a Veteran of the notorious Givati infantry brigade, which was involved in numerous operations directed against Gaza including Operation Cast Lead in 2008-2009.

Delta was in command of a force of 40 men and women including several former IDF veterans. In the EuroMaidan, Delta was routinely applying his skills of urban warfare which he had used against the Palestinians in Gaza.

Don't know what to make of this , but seems like its Spetnaz and Isreali's in Ukraine if true

I guess this news has to be added into the equation:

UPDATE 1-Ukraine failed to pay in full for February gas - Gazprom

The head of Russia's top natural gas producer Gazprom said on Wednesday that Ukraine had informed the company it could not pay for February gas deliveries in full, further adding to tensions between Moscow and Kiev.

Alexei Miller said Ukraine's total debt to Gazprom for gas deliveries was nearing $2 billion.

Thank you. I've had to rely on BBC Live Stream. Had to give up on Guardian Live and The Interpreter because they locked up my computer terribly. I've got the station you linked on now, looks like English version news will be on for an hour according to their show line up. Now I really wish I'd gotten some Fat Tuesday Paczki's to go with my morning coffee.

EDIT: Polish radio says Polish government officials are going to Turkey to discuss the current situation in the Ukraine.

You dont believe that especially since they had a russian soldiers admit where he was from, And i guess according to you Russians are standing on the street corner handing out military equipment to any guy that walks by? How does that work exactly. Hey you there want an armored personnel carrier? Here take this to its the gear we give to our spetznaz which we could afford to give to our entire army but hey take this you need it. You do realize the russian troops have been talking to even ukrainians there is no crimean troops other than the thugs you keep seeing carrying bats.Video has contradicted everything you said i suggest you watch it. As far as the lease its a joke because the lease doesnt let them surround military bases or take over government buildings. As for the payment well thats a joke to they give them gas subsidies but they get to decide the price in the first place. so there not paying a dime to use that port.
