Two signs to look for China shrinking its U.S. dollar holdings.China buying lots of gold.
This has been happening, since December 2013,is China giving up on the U.S. dollar as the world's reserve currency?

On the other hand, if China is smart, it would collapse the Russian economy, destroying a potential rival so it can concentrate on bigger game.

Nobody will gain with Russia economy collapsing.

This is why the president keeps saying he doesnt want to do that. If Russias economy destabilizes we are right back to 1991. We have worked to actually put Russia back on its feet and to go back means russian weapons entering black markets again not to mention people stealing anything not nailed down. Think in 1991 even KGB files went up for sale there was nothing you couldnt get from Russia thats dangerous.

The weakening economy's and rivals is the name of the game and always has been

The EU and US seemed to gain quite a lot from the collapse of the Soviet Union

You could apply that many times over to our own Western Country's!
Never a fair comparison..
just more hypocrisy.

I applied that many times , now is Russia turn. You dont justify invasion of Crimea with invasion of Iraq on other side. You condemn both.

Vladimir Tyunin; there's your firestarter!

A Simferopol court has found one of the leaders of the pro-Russian Crimean Cossack Movement, Vladimir Tyunin guilty of deliberately inciting ethnic and religious enmity and handed down a 2.5 year suspended sentence.

I dont know about the EU but the US tax payer spent Billions in loans to Russia. The US backed every loan the Russians took out to the IMF. Russia wouldn't be where they are now without US help but of course Putin wont admit it. But see you choose to believe theres a big conspiracy with no proof. Feel free to show us how the US profitted on the fall of the Soviet Union i can show you the money spent to prop up the Russians as they say what ya got?

Putin accused the West of staging the massive protests in the Ukrainian capital in order to reduce Russia's clout there. He claimed that radical demonstrators involved in violent clashes with police in Kiev were trained by Western instructors.

"I have a feeling that they sit somewhere in a lab in America over a big puddle and conduct experiments, as if with rats, without understanding the consequences of what they are doing," he said.

Putin says that Russian forces in Ukraine's strategic region of Crimea, which hosts a major Russian naval base, have beefed up security to fend off threats from Ukrainian nationalists. He denied that the troops, who have overtaken Ukrainian military bases across Crimea, were Russian and described them as local "self-defense forces."

So it is all a conspiracy and in fact no Russian troops have entered the Crimea?

Really?

Are you forgetting how the world works

The foreign profits of imperialism?

To a great extent, the U.S. capitalists offset their losses by overseas profits, which risen to $139 billion by 1989

And this is not to mention the additional profits made from the depression of commodity import prices which are engineered by imperialism.

These were estimated at $65 billion in 1985 alone in this sense, the imperialists can "justify" taking some loss in counter-productive military spending, because it pays off in imperialist profits

When the USSR fell, the west capitalised because the USSR wasn't there to challenge it

But that should be common sense, less bidders equal cheaper goods

If Russia's economy collapses due to sanctions it is do e for once again and there will be one less big competitor "again"

Catacomb

That's an interesting thought, and a good place for this thread to go, until asen updates any further. Just what exactly could Russia do, through it's allies or proxies? Military action is simple, yes, but what kind of economic actions could they take? Could they, as others have said, prod China to call on American debts to be repaid? Hand over a couple of nukes to Iran (or I should say a couple more?)??

I'd like to hear what you guys think.

Switch the petro-dollar to a second alternative reserve currency (renminabi/ruble etc.) as the BRICKS nations have been planning for a few years.

If 1/3rd of the planet stopped holding USD as reserve currency, our USD will collapsed; it would create a firestorm which would result in the Russian/Chinese alliance on top and the USA/UK alliance in ashes economically.

If we sanction Russia, we collapse our own currency by forcing Russia and China to utilize an alternate reserve currency backed by gold (BRICKS).

No Russia has there own oil supply this has nothing to do with petrol dollars. It doesnt hurt the US at all it will hurt Europe but not the US. But it does hurt Russia they need foreign investments. They are losing money hand over fist at this point those rich russians arent so rich anymore there bleeding money in there stocks. Two days in a row the Russian stock market continued heading into free fall. See Russia makes 2,021 million off trade with the US where the US makes 741 million selling to Russia the US economy won't even miss this. with this massive of a trade deficit only help the US economy. As far as Russia not using US dollars that happened awhile ago they have been using gold since no one wants rubles.

Moscow (AFP) - Russia could reduce to zero its economic dependency on the United States if Washington agreed sanctions against Moscow over Ukraine, a Kremlin aide said on Tuesday, warning that the American financial system faced a "crash" if this happened.

"We would find a way not just to reduce our dependency on the United States to zero but to emerge from those sanctions with great benefits for ourselves," said Kremlin economic aide Sergei Glazyev.

Russia owes 875 billion and has threatened to abrogate all debt if sanctions by the west are applied...I personally doubt anything along those lines will happen just because there will be to many losers on both sides.. ....
