Breaking: European study finds caffeine mixed with gold may fight cancer

As many of you have seen some of my threads in the past on the topic of curing or treating cancer.

Here is a new article released today which highlights the possibility of gold mixed with caffeine and the possibility that this combination may cure cancer.

London – The unlikely pairing of gold and caffeine could be a potential tool in fighting cancer, according to a recent study.

Researchers at a Netherlands university put the two together in certain configurations to see whether the new caffeine-based gold compounds could selectively stop cancer cells from growing without hurting other cells.

“Caffeine and certain caffeine-based compounds have recently been in the spotlight as possible anticancer treatments,” said Angela Casini, a researcher at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. “Gold also can wipe out cancer cells, but, like caffeine, it can harm healthy cells.”

The team made a series of seven new compounds, called caffeine-based gold (I) N-heterocyclic carbenes in the laboratory and studied them.

The scientists found that at certain concentrations, one of the compounds of the series selectively killed human ovarian cancer cells without harming healthy cells.

In addition, the compound targeted a type of DNA architecture, called ‘G-quadruplex’ that is associated with cancer.

Researchers, in a report in the ACS journal Inorganic Chemistry, said that combining a caffeine-based compound with a small amount of gold could someday be used as an anticancer agent.

The thing with this story is I am not a chemist when it comes to studying metal properties of gold or chemical properties of caffeine.

I know caffeine is a great way to get the blood going and a perfect "good morning" wake up call when I go to work with coffee...but gold, there are many theories as to the possible benefits of wearing it, less much talked about would be to consume it.

What are your thoughts?

I personally would like to see more evidence of this study...not saying that I believe in it, but saying that I would like to find out more about the experiment on this. Could be a hoax study, or a good one...

True or not, it should only take Starbuck's a week or so to jump on this. Add a ten dollar amount of gold to the cup and charge an extra twenty.

This has been around for a while, the lab I worked in during 2008-2009 (last years of undergrad degree)was messing around with caffeine in our cancer research lab. The though process is that the cancer will help shrink the heavy adenosine around/in the cancer tissue.

I know gold has one valence electron ahahah. I'm terrible at chemistry (not so bad at biochem and Ochem though )

Its funny you guys were studying caffeine as a cancer cure.

About 3 years ago in a lab I was working at, not my research group, but one associated with us was studying how gold was able to be programed via other molecules or functional groups to actually hunt down cancer cells. I was working on a different project so i don't have all the details.

Cool! I live in a gold rich area and love my coffee. I should be injesting particles of gold dust every time I breathe. So, another reason to keep drinking those espresso shots.

Injesting Monoatomic Gold has been claimed as not only a way to open up the Unknown abilities of the Penal Gland in the Brain , but also as an Alledged Elixir to prolong Life . Gold in it's White Powder form could also be a possible Cure for certain Cancers some Believe .

Well for gold to be white and powdery it would have had to be reacted with something else.. any idea what compound it is? Id like to read about it.

It would seem that we may have a reason for the crazy rises in the price of gold.

Gold is used for plating in many electronics (which technology is exploding right now) and I am sure most of the gold produced is being stored away from public as the Elite are working on a super conductor plan of some sort....who knows what volatility gold will bring to the marketplace 5 or 10 years from now...

I thought they were just doing it to create a false shortage so they could dump it and get even more 'elite'..
