A recent report uncovered that oil rigs operating off the Santa Barbara coast had been granted permits to dump 9 billion gallons of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, waste into the ocean each year.

As is the oceans weren't already on the brink of disaster...

Wastewater from offshore drilling is being dumped into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California, and it’s apparently legal.

Oil rig operators have federal permits to dump 9 billion gallons of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, waste into the ocean each year – enough to fill more than 100 football stadiums.

Federal regulators signed off on minor revisions to permits that allowed the oil company DCOR to begin fracking off the coast without completing any environmental reviews, according to a TruthOut report.

The fracking wastewater contains toxic substances such as methanol, benzene, naphthalene, and trimethylbenzene, as well as lead and arsenic that comes from deep inside the undersea rock formations.

Those toxins pose a threat to wildlife and anyone who lives near the ocean or eats fish from it. (source )

The EPA has become little more than a rubber stamp for corporations to do as they please, $$$ lobbying and monied influence will always prevail, and damn the consequences.

Oh big deal... We can't do anything about it so why worry about it?

Seriously. They don't have to disclose whats in the fracking fluid they use.

We can't stop the influx of illegal aliens coming in to this country taking jobs.

We cant stop the house and senate from doing pretty much nothing while being paid extraordinary amounts of money for their services...

We could get every citizen in the country to say "stop" and they wouldnt.

The fracking fluid is patented so they don't have to disclose what it is. Why the hell are they fracking under the ocean anyway, there is no way that any problems that can occur can be monitored and attributed to the companies. I suppose this is the intent.

Fracking next the that fault line is one of the stupidest things that can be done. Who in charge of regulating this in this country is stupid enough to approve that? Can we hold the persons who approved this liable for anything that comes from this stupidity?

The Marine Life Protection Act was recently implemented over the last 4 years to protect "alive oceanlife" in sensitive areas the experts determined and grid the whole coastline.
The Sierra Club got 90% of there demands put into State law.
This can't be real is my first impression.
I will be following this closely and even support environment wackos this time.

And you're all wondering why the shellfish are dying...why the starfish are dying...the dolphins...the crabs...turtles...oh well, like the previous poster said what can we do about it. We simple people don't have enough money to counter-offer these slimy politicians, so...we're all F'd!

When "regulators" put their own interest before the majorities best interest they need to be shown the door. Until we can all realize they are just people and not all powerful we will continue to see this happen. By seeing them as all powerful we make them more powerful.
