So I spot this ad in a local paper for a drummer to play on some fusion tracks. So I'm like cool. I call the guy up, end up going over to his place with a portable recorder and record a few tunes straight off his keyboard. Just piano mostly, but this one had a bit of keyboard bass in it too. So after messing with it for a while, I sent him back the included mp3. Just added me playing on a drumset with some wind chimes. Recorded it live just listening to his piano track, and having to learn the suttle timing shifts in his playing and the random stops and punches. He had recorded with no click straight into his sequencer in freewheel mode. No easy task on this tune. So he calls me back a few days later and says essentially it was not what he was looking for. Ok, no biggie. But played it for some musician friends, and they said I did pretty good considering, and that he ought to reconsider. Just curious what your guys opinion might be.

Way back in high-school, I used to have to spend the afternoons in our family's church. My mom was the church secretary, and since that was before the age of cell phones, my mom would make me stop by the church and check in before doing anything else. S.O.P for a 16 year old. Anyways, there the church sanctuary was home to a pipe organ, and I just couldn't keep myself away from it. One dark and rainy day, I came up with this neat ostenueto pattern in minor key. It's been years since I wrote this piece, but during the holiday season of late 2005, I recorded the old tune on a small Casio™ keyboard, and added everybody's favorite 808kit to the mix. I also like to pretend that I can make beats! Haha! I originally made this one for two brothers that have their own reggae/ska/punk/rock band... one is a drummer and rapper on the side... the other brother is a converted Rastafarian complete with dreads. The idea was to produce a battle rap between them, with a more hip-hop style for Bro1's verse... and a more buju/dancehall style for Bro2. Well, we never got around to recording their verses, so all thats left is this track that I made for them. I made every inch of this beat, and used a KORG Electribe to make it. The intro is kinda long, and was supposed to have a clip of the bros arguing in a bar running over it. Turn your bass up. :)

So I was having fun with Acid Pro one day and decided to do an electronic/techno type track about aliens using my cheesy collection of samples, drum-kits, and one-shots. I was bored, okay? :) Anyways, it turned out decent. The song is divided into two parts. I think the first half is when the aliens are seen by observers to be mysteriously appearing in the sky. The second half (you'll know it when it happens) is when the aliens suddenly come into close range for an encounter and start doing all kinds of trippy alien weirdness. Yeah, it doesn't make sense to me either... but its a fun track. :) Enjoy.

One of the FEW people that I approached when I climbed out of the "Rabbit Hole" after 35 years, was the Creator and Producer of "The Pirates Week", Ragnar Daneskjold. Once we made initial contact by e-mail, he and I arranged an interview for his Pirate's Radio Show. Ragnar's show is WORLDWIDE, so this gave me my first opportunity to TALK to the FANS OF THE SHOW that dated back to the original broadcast in 1971. Ragnar and I actually had two conversations...... one to get to know each other and just TALK....... and the second, the actual interview. Although Ragnar made mention of me and the show several times before we actually did the interview, this recording is something that I edited together which gives you a small taste of Ragnar's Show too. Listening back over it when I was editing it today, I really got a chuckle listening to myself. I was STILL a bit PARANOID and LOOKING OVER MY SHOULDER during this time.... so I was a bit tentative and talkative :) ! THANKS RAGNAR..... you've been a GREAT FRIEND!

A few months ago, someone who I knew in the RECORDING INDUSTRY, sent me an unbelievable TREASURE from THE PAST. An AUTHENTIC pirated audio of part of one of the RECORDING SESSIONS of the famous 60's groups call "The Troggs". Their most famous hit of all time was "Wild Thing". But for those of you that may be from another planet and who have never heard of this FANTASTIC GROUP..... This audio, courtesy of "The Troggs" and Their Official Website noted below, will bring you up to speed. The song, of course, is PURE MAGIC..... but the AUDIO of the RECORDING SESSION that follows immediately behind it... is PRICELESS! Enjoy! Dave Biography The Troggs were signed by the manager of The Kinks in 1966 and recorded on Larry Page's Page One Records. Their most famous hit was the single "Wild Thing" (written by Chip Taylor), which reached #1 in the United States in June 1966. Its combination of a simple heavy guitar riff and flirtatious lyrics helped it to quickly become a garage rock standard. They also had a number of other hits, including "With a Girl Like You" (a UK #1 in July 1966, U.S. #25), "I Can't Control Myself" (a UK #2 in September 1966), "Anyway That You Want Me" (UK #10 in December 1966), "Night of the Long Grass" (UK #17 in May 1967), and "Love Is All Around" (UK #5 in October 1967 and US #7 in February 1968). In the early 1970s, in an attempt to re-create their 1960s successes, the Troggs re-united with Larry Page, now running Penny Farthing Records, but the resulting cover version of the Beach Boys hit Good Vibrations did not capture the public's imagination. Here's a snapshot of my song Once Again from my album Shadows of the Stars, which is supposedly a few albums back in the stack (behind Roxxor and Hey), but keeps nudging its way into my head. This version (V60423) doesn't have everything I want in the song and needs tweaking, but it at least captures the vital points and allows me to move on to other songs. As with everything I record, I feel like I've heard this song before somewhere, but that may just be because it's been bouncing around in my head for weeks.
